GARlVlENT-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 18, 1906.
i Application filed June 7, 1906. Serial No. 320,584.
Be it known that I, ANTON VILLIAM BRR- NARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Hangers and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The present invention has for its obj ect to provide a hanger for trousers, coats, dressskirts, waists, and other like apparel that can be readily folded in a small compass and carried in the pocket or Satchel, thereby making it especially convenient for travelers and others requiring such an article.
The invention consists in a hanger for apparel constructed substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view of a hanger constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the hanger extended for use Fig. 2, the hanger in a folded condition when not required for use; Fig. 3, a detail perspective view showing the two inner ends of the hinged sections forming the body of the hanger separated from each other.
In the accompanying drawings, A A represent two rectangular plates which form the body of the hanger, and to the Outer ends of these plates are hinged the plates B B, forming an extension thereto. These several plates, which I will term the hinged section, from which the body of the hanger is formed, are provided upon their ends with perforated ears a b, engaging with each other and held together by the wire c of the hook O and the wire Of the loop e, which is a part of suitable spring-wire clamps D.
I do not wish to limit my invention to the manner specified of hinging together the several sections above described, as any suitable and well-known means may be employed without departing from the essential feal tures of my invention, the means shown, however, being considered the most simple and practical, the hinging of the sections enabling the body of the hanger tO-be folded in a compact form when not required for use and enabling it to be conveniently carried in the pocket or satchel.
When the several sections are extended for use, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings, the ends of the sections will abut against each other and hold the sections in a straight line, and when the sections are raised upward the same will fold against each other, as shown in Fig. 2 Of the drawings.
The hook C enables the hanger to be suspended from a nail orother fixed support, the coat or other like garment extending overthe hinged sections and the ends g of the sections B B extending into the sleeves, perforations or slots f being formed in the sections to receive the hook C when the sections are pressed together.
The spring-wire clamps D are for the purpose of gripping the pantaloons or dressskirts or similar garments, said clamps being constructed of spring-wire of suitable thickness, the arms thereof being twisted together at (Z and the ends extending outward, as shown at h, and when the arms are reversed, as shown in dotted lines of Fig. 1 of the drawings, the ends will securely grip the garment.
I-Iaving now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A garment-hanger comprising plates hinged together at their adjacent ends, and plates hinged to the outer ends of the firstmentioned plates, all of said plates adapted, when extended to abut at their ends and cent ends having interengaging portions with ears, and suspending devices having portions engaged in said ears and forming the pintles of the hinges.
2. In a garment-hanger, a body portion of hinged plates and extensions hinged to the outer ends of said plates, said plates and extensions having overlapping adjacent ends and overlapped ears, and wire clamps having cross portions passed through said hinges, and twisted upon the other side of the plates and having outturned free ends.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature l in presence Of two witnesses.
ANTON WILLIAM BERNARD.
Witnesses: JOHN F. POWER,
EDWARD PETERSON.
