GARMENT-HANGER.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JACOB BELAsoo and ABRAHAM Si-mrino, citizens of the United States, and residing respectively, at Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, and Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Garment Hangers, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
i This invention relates to what are known as garment hangers and particularly to devices of this class designed for suspending an entire suit, or a plurality of separate garments; and the object of the invention is to provide an improved device of this class composed of separate parts foldably connected and adapted to be folded compactly together to facilitate packing, shipping or similar operations, and with this and other objects in View the invention consists in device of thev class specified, constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the fol lowing specification, of which the accom-V panying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of our improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of our improved garment hanger ready for use;
Fig. 2 a side view showing the parts of the hanger folded together and with a part of the construction broken away;
Fig. 3 a. sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. l;
Fig. 4L a sectional view on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2; and,
Fig. 5 a transverse sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
ln the practice of our invention, we pro vide a device of the class specified, comprising the usual top yoke-shaped portion a composed of two parts a2 hinged together at as and adapted to be folder compactly together as shown in Fig. 2, and the lower or outer parts or ends of the separate parts a2 are connected by a transverse brace member b composed of separate parts b2 hinged together at bg.,
Our improved garment hanger is preferably composed of sheet metal, and the separate parts a2 of the top portion a are pref- Specication of Letters Patent.

erably lll-shaped in form, as clearly shown in Figs. 8 and 5, and the adjacent ends of said separate parts where they are hinged together overlap, as indicated in Figs. l and 2,7and mounted between the separate parts thereof vwhere they are hinged together at a3 is a hat suspending device c, the free end portions of which are bent to form spring members 02 between which the rim portion of a hat is passed.
The brace member or the separate parts b2 thereof are also lli-shaped in form, as clearly shown in Figs. i and 5, and the ends thereof arepivoted to the free ends'of the parts t2 of the top yoke-shaped portion a as shown at b4', and pivoted within the separate parts b2 adjacent to the connection of said parts with the yoke-shaped portion a are spring catch or clasp devices (Z which are adapted to fold within the til-shaped portions b2, as clearly shown in Fig. 4, when the separate parts of the hanger are in their folded position, and said devices l are adapted to serve as skirt, trousers or other supporting means, it being understood that the transverse brace member h also serves as a skirt or trouser support.
Pivotally mounted within one of the parts z2 of the top yoke-shaped portion a is a hook-shaped and yoke-shaped suspending device e composed of heavy wire or the like, the separate side members e2 of which are provided with inwardly set portions asv shown at e3, and the ends of said portions are provided with parts arranged at right angles thereto, as shown at e4, said parts being adapted to pass through apertures in said part a2, as clearly shown in Figs. l, 2 and 8, and riveted as shown at c5, and said part a2 is provided between the pivot of said hook-shaped suspending device e and the pivot of the separate parts a2 at a3 with notches or recesses at into which the portions c3 of the hook-shaped suspending device e enter when the hanger, or the separate parts thereof are in their folded position, as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
With this construction, we provide a garment hanger or supporting device which is 'simple in construction and which may be compactly folded together, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, and it will be noted that the pivotal connection of the parts b2 at b3 is below the central line of said separate parts whereby the hanger a, or the parts a2 thereof may be held against inward movement in the use y will be readily understood.
AHaving fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure bv Letters Patent, is:-
l. A garment hanger of the class described, comp ising a yoke-shaped portion composed of separate parts hinged together, said separate parts being U-shaped in form in cross section, a transverse brace member composed of se Jarate parts pivoted to the free ends of said yoke-shaped portion, said separate parts being U-shaped in form in cross section, means for reinforcing the separate parts of the yoke-shaped portion where they are hinged together, said means serving as a hat suspending device, and a suspending device pivoted to one of the separate parts of said yoke-shaped portion.
2. A Vgarment hanger of the class described, comprising a yoke-shaped portion i composed of separate parts hinged together, said separate parts being U-shaped in form in cross section, a transverse brace member composed of separate parts pivoted to the free ends of said yoke-shaped portion, said separate parts being U-shaped in form in cross section, means for reinforcing the separate parts of the yoke-shaped portion where they are hinged together, said means serving` as a hat suspending device, a suspending device pivoted to one of the separate parts of said yoke-shaped portion, and garment suspending devices pivoted to the separate parts of the brace members.
3.1i garment hanger of the class described, comprisinga yoke-shaped portion composed of separate parts hinged together,
a transverse brace member composed of V separate parts pivoted to the free ends of said yoke-shaped member, a hat suspending device pivotally suspended between the separate parts of the yoke-shaped member where they are hinged together and adapted to fold therebetween, and a suspending device mounted in connection with one of the separate parts of said yoke-shaped member.
ln testimony that we claim the foregoing as our invention we have signed our names in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 20th day of July 1916.
