COMBINED TROUSERS AND COAT HANGER.
aaraeaa Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented aa e, acre.
Application filed December 27, 1917. Serial No. 209,036.
To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known thatl, CLARENCE L. [GUERN- sEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaverton, in the county of Gladwin and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Trousers and Coat Hangers; and I do here- The object of this invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive coat and trousers hanger, whereby the trousers may be suspended and held in their creases when not being worn. 7
A still further object of this invention is to provide a combined coat and trousers hanger of a single-length of wire which is so bent as to provide a pair of clamping arms whereby the cufis of the trousers may be So secured to the hanger as to be suspended and held in their creases.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a combined trousers and coat hanger of this character, which will be simple, practical and comparatively inexpensive in construction and one that can be manufactured and sold at a low cost.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and set forth in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawing I Figure 1 is a perspective view of thecombined trousers and coat hanger as made in accordance with this invention,
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the terminal of one clamping arm,
Fig. 3'is a fragmentary perspective view of the terminal of the other clamping arm,
Fig. 4 is a sectional view illustrating the mannerinwhich one clamping arm has a sliding engagement with the other clamping which one arm is detachably secured to the other arm.
Like numerals of reference designatecordrawing.
R forring to the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates the combined trousers and coat hanger in its entirety and it is constructed of a single length of wire coiled at its medial portion to provide a supporting, loop 6, the terminals of which loop'diverge to provide the resilient arms 7. lhe terminals of the arms 7 are curved outwardly and downwardly as at 8 and are looped at their ends as at 9 and bent inwardly in the direction oi each other to provide a pair of relatively spaced horizontally disposed clamping arms 10. The end of one clamping arm is bent laterally as at 11 back upon itself to provide the retaining loop 12 which slidably receives the other arm 10 therein. The terminal of the other arm 10 is bent laterally as at 13 and bent back upon itself to provide the hook 14; which is adapted to be detachably arranged around the adjacent arm to permit of the insertion of the ends of a pair of trousers between the opposing faces of the clamping arms 10 to retain the trousers in their creases.
it will be apparent from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, that by virtue of the loop 6 that the arms 8 are adjustable and are resilient and by virtue of the sliding loop 12- and hook 14 that the trousers may have their ends alined and arranged between the clamping arms 10 and held in a suspended position therefrom and in their creases. It also will be apparent that a coat may be readily arranged over the arms 8 and the whole device supported by the loop .6 in a cupboard or the like.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is.
l. A combined trousers and coat hanger comprising a pair of coat supporting arms,
clamping arms .formed integrally with the terminals of the coat supporting arms, and means carried by the terminals of the clamping arms slidably and detachably connecting the arms together, as and for the purpose specified.
2. A combined trousers and coat hanger having a pair of resiliently connected arms extendin outwardly and curving downwardly rom their point of connection, the terminals of said arms looped to provide a pair of horizontally disposed trousers supporting arms, and means carried by the terminal of each horizontal arm and embracing the adjacent arm for slidably connecting the arms together.
3. A combined trousers and coat hanger comprising a single length of wire coiled intermediate its ends to provide a supporting loop and outwardly and downwardly curved coat supporting arms, the terminals of the arms looped and having their ends extended inwardly in the direction of each other to provide a pair of horizontally disposed clamping arms, the terminal of one clamping arm bent laterally and back upon itself to slidably engage the adjacent arm,
and a hook formed integrally with the free end of the other arm to detachably receive the adjacent arm to permit the arms to have clamping engagement with one an- 15 other.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
