Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIQ.
OTTO RANGNOW, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
GARMENT-HANGER.
Original application filed January 22, 1909, Serial No. 473,666.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. Orro RANcNow, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in a garment hanger and particularly relates to a garment hanger consisting of a cross bar and a support secured to the center of the cross-bar for suspending the latter.
The object of my invention is to provide novel means for securing the support to the cross-bar by which the said parts will be readily held together and the necessity of forming an aperture through the cross-bar is avoided, which latter would weaken the central part of the cross-bar at the point where the greatest strain is sustained.
This invention formed part of an application for Letters Patent of the United States. filed by me on the twenty-second day of January, 1909, Serial No. 473,666, in which application a division was declared between the two inventions embodied in said application.
Referring to the accompanying drawing; Figure 1, is a perspective view of a garment hanger embodying my invention; Fig. 2, is a cross section on line 22 Fig. 1; Fig. 3, is a perspective view showing a modified form of my invention; Fig. 4, is a cross section on line 4- & Fig. 3; and, Fig. 5, is a horizontal section on line 55 Fig. t.
In the drawings in which like references indicate like parts, 1 represents the cross-bar made of wood or other suitable material, 2 represents the support consisting of a wire 2 having a hook 3 formed at the upper end of the same and the lower end of said wire 2 is wrapped around said cross-bar to rigidly clamp the same and hold the cross-bar rigidly connected with the support.
The point 5 of the wire 2 is inserted a short distance into the surface of the crossbar to prevent the possibility of the crossbar from slipping longitudinally through the portion of the wire support which is wrapped around said cross-bar. A second wire 8 may be added, as shown in Fig.3, for the purpose of strengthening the support. The said wire 8 is secured to the main por- Specification of Letters Patent.

tion of the wire 2. The lower ends of the wires 2 and 8 are separated and wrapped around the cross-bar in opposite directions and in different vertical planes and the points of said wires are inserted into the surfaces of the cross-bar.
By separating the portions of the support, which are wrapped around the crossbar, the cross-bar will be more rigidly held by the support and the support will be less likely to become distorted when the weight is accidentally placed at one end of the cross-bar.
here the support is formed of a single wire, as shown in Fig. 1, the lower portion of the wire is bent upon itself at the point 10 and the end thereof again wrapped around the cross-bar to give additional strength and form a rigid means for connecting the cross-bar and the support.
By constructing a garment hanger in the above described manner the parts are rigidly held together, the cross-bar is not weakened in the center by forming an aperture through the same for the passage of the support and the garment hanger is simple of construction and can be manufactured at a very low cost.
Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In an article of the character described, the combination of a cross-bar, a wire having one end thereof wrapped around said cross-bar, a second wire secured to said first mentioned wire, and said second wire having the end thereof wrapped around said crossbar in a different vertical plane from said first mentioned wire.
2. In an article of the character described, the combination of a cross-bar, a wire having one end thereof wrapped around said cross-bar, a second wire secured to said first mentioned wire, said second wire having the end thereof wrapped around said cross-bar and said wires having the points thereof inserted into the surface of said cross-bar.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OTTO RANGNOVV.
