COAT HANGER.
APPLICATION FLED AFR. 4,19l1. 11,262,085, Patented Apr. 9, 1918.
FZ?. a" l? 9v 37 fx .x l f l \4 wbb/woo pn'rrn ROBERT L. OLVEOHUNDRO, OF ROANOKE, VIRGINIA..
COAT-HANGER.
Specification. of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 9, 1918.
Application filed April 4, 1917. Serial No. 159,632.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, ROBERT L. OMOHUN- ono, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roanoke, in the county of Roanoke and State ot Virginia, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Coat-Hangers, ot which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment hangers and has for its object to provide a combined coat hanger and a support for trousers or the like. With this general object in view the invention consists of the formation, combination and arrangement of parts as will be herein described and particularly claimed.
ln the drawings which accompany and form a part ot these speciications, Figure l is a plan View ot' the hanger of my invention and Fig. 2 is a side elevational view thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section of thersame taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a similar view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2 and showing a portion of a pair ot trousers held in the supports which are provided for that purpose.
Referring to these drawings it will be seen that the hanger consists of a yoke member 1 which has downwardly extending arms 2 and 3, these in the present embodiment being gained outon their opposing sides at their upper ends at 4 and affixed together to form a unitary yoke which is shaped to receive a coat or the like and retain it in proper shape.
Extending from the lower extremity of one yoke arm to the other is a round rod or brace 5, the same being` rigidly atlixed to the yoke arms and bracing and tying the ends of the yoke together. The arms 2 and 3 are slotted at 6 and 7 in their inner or opposing edges immediately above the brace 5, and extending from one arm to the other with its ends retained within these slots and disposed immediatelv above the tie bar 5 is a movable bar 8. This bar 8 may be moved from a lower position in contact with the tie bar 5 in an upward direction parallel with the tie barto the upper ends of the slots or ways 6 and 7 and provides a space for inserting a garment between the bars 5 and 8.
Fig. t shows the manner of entering the trousers between the bars 5 and 8 and of iolding them over the top of the bar 8 and when so inserted the trousers are held securely in place against rounded surfaces.
At the same time they are not severely clamped soas to indent or injure the garment. All ot the supporting parts ot the hanger are made of wood so that garments will not be injured by rust or stain.
rThe bar 8, which is circular in cross section, is capable ot rotation about its longitudinal axis within the slots 6 and 7 and thus creases may be drawn out ot the garment by a slight turning ot the bar 8. The wire hook 9 is provided to support the hanger upon a rod or the like.
I have thus described an embodiment ot my invention. lt will be understood that other embodiments are possible within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit thereof.
vWhat I claim is:
l. A coat hanger having a yoke member with downwardly extending arms, a brace extending from the lower end of one arm to the lower kend of the other, a vertically movable bar extending from one arm to the other above the brace, the said arms being provided with ways for the ends ot the bar, said ways being formed to allow movement of the bar parallel to the brace and to permit rotation of the bar about its longitudinal axis.
2. A coat hanger having a yoke member with downwardly extending arms, said arms being slotted near their lower ends. in their opposing edges, a tie bar extending from the end of one arm to the end of the other and rigidly tying and bracing the two arms together, and a movable bar extending from one arm to the other above the rigid kbar and being capable of movement to and 'from the rigid bar. the ends of the movable bar extending within the said slots and being retained thereby, but being susceptible ot rotation therein about its longitudinal axis.
8. A; coat hanger having a yoke member with downwardly extending arms. a brace extending from the end of one arm to the end of the other and rigidly tyinp the said ends together, slots in the opposing Vedges of the arms immediately above the said brace, and a bar having its ends disposed within said slots and extending from one arm to the other above the said brace, said bar being` susceptible ot movement parallel with the brace and within the limits of the slots whereby it may be allowed to contact the brace or may be raised to a distance above the braoe, the said bar being` susceptible of rotation Within said slots about its longitudinal axis. y
4. A coat hanger having a Wooden yoke ineinber With downwardly extending Wooden arms, said arms being slotted near their lower ends in their opposing faces, avwooden tie bar of circular cross section extending from the end of one arni to the end of the other and rigidly secured therein, a movable Wooden bar of circular cross section extending from one aiin to the other above the rigid bar and having its ends disposed 1n and retained by the said slots, the said Inovable bar being capable of movement parallel 15 With the rigid bar from a position in oontact therewith to a position above and somewhatV removed from the rigid bar, and being capable also of rotatable inoveinent about its longitudinal axis as a center.
In testimony whereof ali'ix my signature.
