UNITED STATES PATENT OF ICE.
FREDERICK A. CAMMANN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
PLACKET-FASTEN ER.
SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 703,718, dated July 1, 1902.
Application filed April 25, 1902.
To all w/tom it may concern.-
Be it known that 'I, FREDERICK A. CAM- MANN, of the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented .certain new and useful Improvementsin Placket-Fasteners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My object is to make an improved placketfastener; and my invention consists of an eye-plate having openings for stitching to the garment and having an eye-opening to re ceive the hook and having a narrow slit extending downwardly from the eye-opening, the metal being bent inwardly on each side of the slit to form spring-lips, in combination with a hook comprising an elongated sheetmetal plate having its ends bent to meet yieldingly at its center and form a springneck and then curved outwardly to form a head to pass through the eye-opening, so that the spring-neck may pass downwardly between the spring-lips and make a tight sliding connection.
Figure 1 is a perspective of a skirt-placket, showing the fastener disconnected. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the fastener connected, the skirt being omitted. I Fig. 3 is a rear elevation with the parts connected for use.
Referring to the drawings in detail, myimproved placket-fastener. comprises the eyeplate 4, having the small openings 5 near its edges for stitching the plate tothe garment and having the eye-opening 6 near the upper end and having a narrow slit 7 extending downwardly from the eye-opening, the edges of the metal on each side of the slit being bent backwardly to form the spring-lips 8 and 9 and the hook comprising the elongated sheet-metal plate 10 having openings 11 for Serial No. 104,720. (No model.)
stitching to the garment, the ends of said plate being bent to meet yieldingly at its center to form the spring-neck ll and then bent outwardly to form the head 12. The head 12 is'passed through the eye-opening 6, and the spring-neck 11 is pressed downwardly between the spring-lips 8 and 9, thus compressing the neck and expanding the lips, making a tight frictional contact.
My invention is designed especially for securing together the loose edges of the placket and other similar garments where there is no great horizontal strain, but where there is liability of unhooking or unbuttoning, and the tight frictional contact betweenthe springneck 11 and-the spring-lips 8 and 9, together with the length of the lips 8 and 9, reduces the liability of unhooking to a minimum.
I claim- A placket-fastener comprising an eye-plate having openings for stitching to the garment, and having an eye-opening to receive the hook, and having a narrow slit extending downwardly from the eye-opening, the metal being bent inwardly on each side of the slit to form spring-lips; in combination with ahook comprising an elongatedsheet-metal plate having its ends bent to meet'yieldingly at its center and form a spring-neck and then curved outwardly to form a head to pass through the eye-opening, so that the spring-neck may pass downwardlybetween the spring-lips and make a tight sliding connection; substantially as specified. p
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK A. GAMMANN. Witnesses:
ALFRED A. EIOKS, M. G. IRION.
