" ATENT XVILLIAM EDWARD HARRIS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LOOP FOR HANGING GARMENTS CIFICATIOI\T forming part of Letters Patent No. "306,248, dated October '7, 1884:.
Application filed February 19, 181-54. (N0 model.)
To (LZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that LWILLIAM EDWARD HAR- RIs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Loops for Hanging iarments, of which the following is a full, clear, and ex act description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improvement shown as applied toa garment. Fig. 2 is a front'elevation of the improvement. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of the same, taken through the line 00 4%, Fig. 2. Fig. at is a sectional plan view of the same, taken through the line y y, Fig. 2.
The object of this invention is to facilitate the hanging up of coats and other garments, and promote strength and durability in the hanging-loops.
The invention consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
' A represents a plate of light sheet metal, made of suitable length and breadth, reference being bad to the size and weight of the garment to which it is to be applied.
In each end part of the plate A are formed two perforations, B, for the passage of the thread by means of which the said plate is secured to the garment, and the said plate between the end perforations has a groove or recess, 0, formed in it to receive the ihsteningthread as it passes fronrone to the other of the said perforations B.
Upon the upper edge ofthe plate A is formed, or to it is attached, the end of a narrow plate or tongue, D, which is bent down over the plate A, and is secured at its other end by being passed through, soldered.or otherwise attached to the said plate A,'so as to form a keeper to receive the ring E, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
The plate A is designed to be placed between the body and lining of the garment, so as to be entirely covered and concealed, as illustrated in Fig. 1, the upper part of the ring E projecting, so that it can be readily drawn out to be passed over the hook or nail from which the garment is to be suspended.
\Vhen not required for use, the ring E pushed down in the keeper D, so that only the upper part of the said ring will project, as shown in Fig. 1
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improved article of manufacture, a loop for hanging garments, consisting of the plate A, provided with the perforations B, the grooves O, and the central tongue, D, bent down over the plate and secured thereto, as described, to form a keeper, and ring E, secured to the plate by said keeper, in which it is free to slide, as set forth.
WILLIAM ED\VARD HARRIS.
