WITNESSES INVE/VTDR N PETEns F'IMo-Liliwgnphon washmmw. ac.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JUSTIN H. HILL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
NECK-'YOKE CENTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 307,303, dated October 28,1884.
Application filed October 10, 1883. Renewed August 21, 1884. (No model.)
To alZ whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, JUsrIN H. HILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in N eclr-Yoke Centers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the let-- ters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in neck-yoke centers; and it has for its objects to provide a neat, Strong, and durable article, as more fully hereinafter specified. These objects I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view of my invention, and Fig. 2 a side elevation of a detached portion of the same.
The letter A indicates two half-cylinders of metal, which are designed to embrace the' neck-yoke bar. One of said haltcylinders is provided with a flange, B, which oversets the upper edge of the opposite half-cylinder, the parts at the junction being secured together and to the neck-yoke bar 0 by means of screws D passing through suitable apertures. The said half-cylinders are provided at their lower ends with adjoining lips E, one of which has I a projection, F,wh ich is provided with a pin or lug, G, or a number of the same, to which is attached a strip of leather or other suitable material, H, by riveting the end of said lug or lugs. The lips E are provided with slots I, which lie in juxtaposition when the parts are in place, and through them passes a leather strap, K, which is folded down on each side .of the strip H, the said strips H and K being stitched or otherwise firmly secured together. The letter L indicates the aperture for the pole of the vehicle, extending through both of the strips.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The combination, in a ncck-yoke center, of the two halfeylinders, one of which is provided with a flange to overset the upper edge of the other, the two being provided with slotted lips, one of which has a projection to which is secured a leather strip, and the strip extending through the slots in the lips, the whole secured together and to the neck -yoke substantially as and for the purposes specified. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JUSTIN H. HILL.
