ROBERT O. MCKINDLEY, OF MAGNOLIA, ARKANSAS.
WHIFFLETREE.
SECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 350,938, dated October 19, 1886. Application tiled July 13. 1886. Serial No. 207,939. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern,.-
Beit known that I, ROBERT C. MCKINDLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Magnolia, in the conntyof Columbia and State ot' Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vhiitletrees, consisting of i'ast-enings hereinafter described; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable. others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reierence being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to the letters and gnres of reference marked thereon, which form a part ot' this specification.
My invention has relation to whitfietrees; and it consists in the novel arrangement and construction of its parts, as hereinafter de' scribed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a whiftletree with my frieze-iron and central attachment. Fig. 2 is an end View of Fig. Il. Fig. 3 is an enlarged View ot' one end oi' Fig. l with frieze-iron properly adjusted. Fig. i is an enlarged view ot' Fig. l with frieze-iron open. Fig. 5 is a crossseetional View of Fig. 1, eut through on the line xwxx.
My invention is described as follows:
In the center of a pole, A, is firmlyattaehed on the front side a haltcollar or curved plate of metal, l,with an eye, 2, and link 3, swiveled in the said eye. On either end of the pole A is firmly attached a collar, 4, having two arms, 55, with perforations 6 (S through their outer end, between which is riveted a bent arm, 7, terminating in a half-collar, 3. The outer end ofthe collar 8 is flush with the end ofthe pole A, and its inner end meets and exactly tits against the outer end of the said collar 4, and the outer face of the said halfcol lar 8 is iiush with the outer face of the collar 4. Vhen the chain is to be attached to the end of the pole A, the half-collar S is swung outward, as represented in Fig. 4. The chain is then slipped over the end ofthe pole Aand upon the collar 4. The half-collar 8 is swung back to its position on the pole, and the chain falls vover the half-collar. as represented in Fig. 3, and said haltI collar is held in place by the pressure exerted on the chain. The link 3 is swiveled in the eye 2 on the front face ot' the said pole A., while its free end extends beyond the rear face ot' the same, thus giving free play to the whifiietree, to which may be attached the end ot' a double-tree or other like thing.
Having thus described iny invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A whillietree, as described, having a trie/.e iron secured on its rear part, the perforated arms 5. bent arm 7, pivoted between said arms 5, and bent plate or half-collar 8, secured to the bent end of said arm 7, its outer end being iiush with the end ofthe said pole, its inner end exactly meeting` and fitting against thc outer cnd oi' said collar4, substantially as shown and described.
2. A whit'lletrcc consisting of the pole A, the half-collar or bent plate secured in the middle ot' and to the front face of said pole, and having the eye 2 and link 3, swiveled in said eye, as described, the l'rieze-iron secured on either end oi' said pole, consisting of the collar 4t, having on its rear part the perforated arms 5, bent arm 7, pivoted between said arms 5, and bent plate or half-collar 8, secured t0 the bent end of said arm 7, its outer end being flush with the end ot' said pole, and its inner end exactly meeting and fitting against the outer end ot' said pole, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereofI afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT O. MUKINDLEY.
