SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 589,536, dated September 7, 1897.

Be it known that I, STEPHEN A. D. REY- NOLDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Girard, in the county of Macoupin and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness Attachments; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to harness attachments.

The object of the invention is to provide an attachment of this character which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, and comparatively inexpensive of production.

With this object in view the invention consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved attachment, showing its application to the several 2 5 parts of a set of harness with which it is used;

The attachment consists of a bar 1, having upon its front edge twoloops 2 and on its 0 rear edge, intermediate the loops 2', a third loop 3. Pivoted to one of the loops 2 at one end is a curved bar or yoke 4-, the free end of which is adapted to project upwardly through the other end loop 2 and is provided 3 5 with an eye 5. One of the loops 2 is connected with a ring in the right hame by a strap 6. The loop 3 is connected with the pole-strap S, which leads to and is connected with the belly-band of the harness, while the 4.0 yoke or curved bar passes upwardly through the'opposite loop 2 and is connected to the Serial ITo 632,843. left hame bya strap 9, having a snap-hook 10, which engages the eye of the said yoke or curved bar. The curved bar, as shown in Fig. 1, supports the ring 11' of the yoke 12.

The employment of a device or fastening of this construction does away with the trouble of putting the pole-strap over the end of the neck-yoke for use. Each pole'strap also draws from the ring of the neck-yoke, giving each horse the same leverage in backing the vehicle.

The device also reduces the swing of the pole on rough roads, and by simply unhooking the snap-hook from the eye in the end of the curved bar the parts may be quickly separated.

Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or 'modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of myinvention without departing from the spirit thereof.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

An attachment for harness, comprising a bar, the ends of which are provided with two loops on one edge of said bar while the inter- 7c mediate portion of the other edge is provided with a third loop, a yoke pivoted to one of the end loops and having its free end projecting upwardly through the opposite end loop, and formed with an eye-opening, substantially as set forth.
