ATTORNEYS. v
y I l o UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB EISEMAN, OF G-ALENA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WRENCHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 195,266, dated September 18, 1877 application filed August 24, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AGOB EISEMAN, of Galena, in the county of J o Daviess and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Wrench of which the following is a specification This invention relates to an improvement on monkey-wrenches; and the nature of my invention consists in the combination of a detachable serrated jaw with the fixed jaw of a monkey-wrench, whereby the common nutwrench can be made to serve as a pipe-wrench, as will be understood from the following description.
In the annexed drawing, Figure 1 is a side view of the improved wrench. Fig. 2 is a crosssection, showing the face of the serrated jaw.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The letter A designates the shank of the monkey-wrench, on one end of which is a handle, B, and on the other end is permanently secured a jaw, 0, having a flat face.
The jaw D is looped on the shank A, and is caused to slide thereon by turning a screw, E. G designates a steel jaw-face, which is constructed with a hook, a, on one end, and with a beveled and serrated surface, the teeth b of which are pitched toward the shank A. This serrated jaw G is bifurcated and secured on the shank A against the face of the fixed jaw O by means of a pin,'c.
Fig. 1 shows the position of the movable jaw when it is confined in its place on the wrench, wherein it will be seen that the hook a passes over the nose of the jaw G, and the pin 0 passes through the ends of thejaw back of the shank. This affords a very strong attachment, and enables me to convert a common monkeywrench into a pipe-wrench.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As a new article of manufacture, the removable serrated jaw G, having one end bifurcated, and a hook, a, on the opposite end, substantially as described.
JACOB EISEMAN.
