Description

H. WILSON.
improvement in Pipe Wrenches. No. 118,997.
Patented Sep. 12,1871.
UNITED STATES HENRY WILSON, OF TARR FARM, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PlPE-WRENCHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,997, dated September 12, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY WILsoN, of Tarr Farm, in the county of Venan go and State of Penn sylvania, have invented a new and Improved Pipe-Wrench; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 represents a side view of my improved pipe-wrench. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new pipe-wrench, in which the movable jaw is pivoted to the shank of the lower jaw and by a projecting pin connected with slotted arms of the pivoted handle, whereby considerable leverage is gained and the power of gripe consequently increased.
A in the drawing represents the lower jaw of the pipe-wrench rigidly affixed to a handle, B.
O is the other handle of the wrench, pivoted at a to the handle B, and forked at its upper end, as shown. D is the movable jaw, pivoted at I) to the upper part of the handle B. c is a pin projecting from the sides of the jaw D through slots din the forked upper part of the handle 0. Whenever the lower end of the handle B is carried toward the handle its forked upper end will swing the jaw with great power toward the jaw A for holding a pipe or other thing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination of the jaw A and handle B with the forked and slotted handle 0, pin 0, and jaw I), all arranged substantially as herein shown and described.
HENRY WILSON.
