This invention relates to an improved garment support to be constructed in the upper part of a pair of trousers, so as to afford a self-supporting garment, thereby dispensing with the usual suspenders.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a self-supporting garment or pair of trousers having the supporting means constructed therein, which supporting means comprises improved features of construe tion.
One of the features of the invention is to provide an overturned portion at the upper part of the trousers, forming a hem in which an elastic band is inserted, said band having its opposite ends provided with fastening means to fasten the ends together. when the band is drawn tight, thereby dispensing with s1 spenders or a belt.
A flirther feature of the invention is to provide the overturned upper part of the trousers with a plurality of openings, whereby the hem is made loose, so that the elastic band be inserted therethrough, which band, at diametrically opposite side points of the trousers, having button holes, to be engaged by buttons upon the under garment, where-, by the undergarment may be supported, as well as the trousers, said buttons passing through diametrical opposite openings of the overturned part of the hem, so as to engage the button holes of the band.

The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a pair of trousers, showing the garment sup port as applied thereto and constructed in accordance with the invention, whereby the trousers are self-supported.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the waist portion of the trousers, showing the improved elastic band as applied.
Fig. 3 is a detail perspecdveview of the upper parts of the opposite portions of the fly of the trousers, showing the manner of fasteningthe opposite ends of the elastic band together.

' Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 designates a pair of trousers which may be of the usual construction, and having their upper portion folded over and stitched at 2, thereby forming a suitable hem 3, to the inner folded portion of which the usual lining and stiffening, not shown, may be stitched. An elastic band 4 is inserted through this hem, the inner folded portion of which is provided with a multiple of vertical slits or openings 5, thereby rendering the hem of a loose construction for facilitating the insertion of the elastic band through the hem. One of the ends of the band is provided with a series of button holes 6, and is extended through one of the slits or openings 5 adjacent the upper part of the fly of the trousers, while the other end of the band is provided with a button 7 extending through a corresponding opening or slit, so as to engage any one of the button holes 6, whereby the opposite ends of the elastic band may be fastened together, when the band is stretched and drawn tight about the waist of the wearer, thereby rendering the trousers self-supporting and dispensing with the use of suspenders or other separate supporting means. The elastic band at diametric opposite side portions of the waist being provided with button holes 8, which may be engaged by buttons 9 upon diametric opposite side portions of anundergarment 10. thereby supporting said undergarment as well as the trousers, which buttons 9 pass through diametrically opposite slits or openings 5.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful, is
In a self-supporting garment, the combi nation of a pair of trousers having the upper waist portion inwardly overturned and. stitched to the trousers, thereby forming a hem and an elastic band inserted in said tit hem, of means for fastening the opposite ends of the band together, the over inturned portion of the hem having a series of slits to render the hem loose, whereby the insertion 5 of the band is facilitated, said fastening means comprising a button on one end of the band passing through one of the slits near the fiy of the trousers, the other end of the band having button holes and extending 10 through one of the slits near the other side of the fly of the trousers, anyone of which button holes to be engaged by said button,
said band at diametrically opposite side points having button holes to receive buttons on an undergarment, which buttons pass 15 through diametrically opposite slits of the inturned folded portion of the hem.
