N. A. GLADSTONE 2,137,396 GRIP STRIP FOR PANTS AND OTHER GARMENTS Filed NOV. 29, 1957 INVENTOR [Vewfon A. Gladslone Ww ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 22, 1938 ,U'Nrr Emwms PM we or a 2.131396?! enm s'rme rommiws AND omniscient 1 ivmnrs -t p Newton A. Gladstone. Forest Hil1s;'N. Y.
Apmnstiomnove bemanesn seriannornasssve QClaimsss'iCl. 241m7) This invention relates" to new-i-and useful prover'nents ima grip='strip'- for -pants and other garments.
The invention has for an'object the provision of an adjustment device which may be mounted on the waist portion of a pair of trousers, or the cuff or sleeve portions of a garment, or on other annular portions of various types of garments to resiliently draw the portion or portions together and so provide a grip for the garment. When applied to the waist portion the adjustment device is capable of helping support the garment upon ones waist. When applied to the leg portion it is capable of gripping ones leg to hold the leg portion form-fitting, or to act as a garter for holding ones sock or stocking.
The invention contemplates the construction of an adjustment device which is capable of being mounted either outside or inside of a garment at various places, or portions mentioned.
Still further the invention proposes to arrange the adjustment device so that it may be tacked or stitched, or riveted or stapled, or in any other manner secured in position on the garment.
,Still further the invention proposes to characterize the adjustment device by a tubular casing of fabric, or elastic strands mounted to gather the same, and tabs or portions by which the tubular casing may be secured upon the gar- 3o ment.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, refer ence will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims. in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. l is a perspective view of a pair of trousers with adjustment devices according to this invention, applied to the waist portion and to the extremities of the leg portions.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the adjustment device, per se.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a ladys skirt with an adjustment device according to this invention applied to the waist portion.
5 In Fig. 1 a pair of trousers I 0 is illustrated with an adjustment device according to this invention applied to the inside of the waist portion. Each of the legs of the trousers l0 also have adjustment devices. One of these adjustment devices is applied to the inside of the leg portion, and the otheris applied to the *outside -merely-ioril'lus 6* trative purposes' to bring out-that the adjustmer-it device may be applied either inside or outside of a garment. While a pair of trousers has been illustrated-in Fig. 1, this is not intended as a lim- 5 itation since the invention may be applied to various types and designs of garments. By way of illustration, a skirt I0 is shown in Fig. 4 with the adjustment applied to the inner side of the waist portion. 10
The adjustment device includes a tubular casing I l of fabric material, to the longitudinal sides of which there is attached elastic strands I2 which draw together portions of the tubular casing so as to gather it. Tabs l3 are mounted upon 15 the ends of the tubular casing and extend inwards. Between the inner ends of these tabs there are a plurality of elastic bands [4.
The casing II has one side formed with an opening closed with a panel portion H panel portion is held in closed position with snap fasteners Hi. In Fig. 3 the panel portion is shown open. In Fig. 2 it is shown closed.
The tabs l3 are merely engaged into the end portion of the tubular casing and are fixedly held 25 by lines of stitches II. The inner ends of the tab portions l 3 are formed with eyelets l8. These eyelets are engaged by hooks I9 which are mounted upon the ends of the elastic bands It. They serve to hold the bands in position.
The adjustment device is secured within or outside of a garment by lines of stitches 2| engaged through the tabs [3 and the material of the garment. The resiliency of the adjustment device may be varied by removing some or all of 35 the bands M. The bands l2 are permanently connected with the tubular casing l I.
When the adjustment device is mounted upon a garment it serves to form a grip for holding that portion of the garment upon ones body. 40
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed andthe right is reserved to all changes and modifications 45 coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:- 5O
1. In combination with an annular portion of a garment, a grip tightening means, comprising a tubular casing of fabric material, elastic strands attached along the longitudinal sides of said tubular casing for gathering same, tabs mounted 55 This20 through the ends of said casing and having their outer ends securable on the annular portion of said garment, and elastic bands removably mounted between the inner ends of said tabs.
2. In combination with an annular portion of a garment, a grip tightening means, comprising a tubular casing of fabric material, elastic strands attached along the longitudinal sides of said tubular casing for gathering same, tabs mounted through the ends of said casing and having. their outer ends securable on the annular portion of said garment, and elastic bands removably mounted between the inner ends of said tabs, a flap for closing an open side formed in said tubular casing, said elastic bands being removable through said open side when said flap is.
open.
3. In combination with an annular portion of a garment, a grip tightening means, comprising a tubular casing of fabric material, elastic strands attached along the longitudinal sides of said tubular casing for gathering same, tabs mounted through the ends of said casing and having their outer ends securable on the annular portion of said garment, and elastic bands removably mounted between the inner ends of said tabs, a flap for closing an open side formed in said tubular casing, said elastic bands being removable through said open side when said flap is open, each of said bands having hooks on the ends thereof engageable with eye elements mounted on the inner ends of said tabs.
4. In combination with an annular portion of a garment, a grip tightening means, comprising a tubular casing of fabric material, elastic strands'attached along the longitudinal sides of said tubular casing for gathering same, tabs mounted through the ends of said casing and having their outer ends securable on the annular portion of said garment, and elastic bands removably mounted between the inner ends of said tabs, said tabs being secured upon said tubular casing with stitches.
