HARRY GARTY, OF RIEGELSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
HOSE-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb.1'7, 1914..
Application filed September 20, 1910. Serial No. 582,883.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l", HARRY B. CA RTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Riegelsville, in the county of Bucks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to securing and protecting means for ladies stockings by which they are conveniently secured to the fastener or supporting devlce of any ordlnary construction of garter, without liability of tearing or injuring the fabric of the stocking.
Ladies stockings are frequently made of silk or other delicate fabric which is liable to become torn or injured if directly engaged by the mechanical gripping device of a garter or supporter. Tearing or mutilating of the stocking is not the result of con stant contact with the gripping device of the supporter, but not infrequently occurs the first time upon which the stocking is worn, and as a result the cost of stockings becomes quite an item of expense.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a simple and efi'ective means whereby the clasp of the supporter may be attached to the stocking without danger of injury or tearing of the same.
With the above, and otherobjects in view, which willappear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a View illustrating a stocking constructed in accordance with the present invention as the same appears when in position on the limb of the wearer and connected with a stocking supporter. Fig. 2 is an enlarged face View of a portion of the stocking. Fig.
3 is a detail vertical sectional view taken through one of the loops and the ring connected therewith. v
In referring to the drawings the numeral 1 designates a stocking which is here shown as a ladys stocking and which may be of any preferred or ordinary general construction; Secured adjacent the upper open end ofthe stocking and of a length approximately equaling or slightly exceeding onehalf of the circumference of the stocking is a band 2 made of any suitable textile material. The band 2 is connected with the stocking by stitches 3 which are arranged adjacent the top and bottom edges of the said band as well as at the ends thereof. Securely connected between the band 2 and the stocking 1 is a plurality of loops 4, and engaged by each of these loops is a ring member 5. These loops 5 are preferably constructed of metal, but may, of course, be formed of other material if desired, and the said rings are adapted for the rec ption of the usual form of catch 6 which is connected with the bands 7 of the usual supporter.
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be noted that by arranging the rings upon the loops and securing the loops to the band in spaced relation with each other, the catch members of the supporter may be attached to the said loops and in any desired position without causing the stocking to be rotated so that the clasp may be attached to any part of the stocking as desired.
It will be further noted that the device is extremely simple in construction, can be attached to any ordinary stocking, is cheap, and is thoroughly effective and reliable, and while I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of the improvement, as it now appears to me, minor details of construction, within the scope of the following claim may be resorted to if desired.
Having thus fully described the inven tion, what I claim as new is A stocking having its top portion folded upon itself to provide a reinforced end, a strip for the reinforced end constructed of flexible material, said strip bein stitched adjacent its longitudinal edges an adjacent its transverse edges to the exterior surface of the stocking and embracing the front and side portions of the stocking, a plurality of relativel spaced loops each formed from a strip of exible material and having their meetin ends connected with the outer surface of the stocking and the inner face of the strip by the longitudinal stitching of said strip, each of said loops having loosely whereby facilitating the attaching of the connected therewith a metallic ring member, ring member to said attaching member. 10
said member being disposed below the upper In testimony whereof I affix my signature edge of the stocking for the reception of an in presence of two witnesses.
1 attaching member and permitting the at- HARRY B. CARTY.
taching member to be engaged therewith, Witnesses: said ring member being mounted in the loop CHAS. W. RIEGEL,
