To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Honnon Z. NABnRs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hickory Grove, in the county of York and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspending Devices for Garments, of which the following is a specification.

The purpose of this invention is to so construct the suspenders and co-acting devices upon the lower garments, which they are to support, that the suspenders may be worn inside instead of outside the mans shirt or womans waist or similar garment as the case may be. It is well recognized that the suspenders now commonly in use are unsightly and tend to produce wrinkles and wear upon the outer upper garment and the upper garment also tends to ride from under the lower garment because of the movement of the wearers body thus proving very embarassing at times. By the present invention all these inconveniences are overcome. 1 construct and arrange the parts of my de vice so that the suspenders or equivalent supports may be worn inside of the shirt, waist or upper garment and at the same time will secure the tail portion of the upper garment to the lower garment. This device is also constructed so as to be durable and may be constructed at a minimum cost and will prove of no inconvenience to the user thereof.

In the drawing the invention is illustrated as commonly applied to mens trousers. This, however, is one example merely of the use to which my invention may be put and it will be readily seen that by slight modifications of the suspending device this may be used to advantage upon a womans garment.

Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the numeral 1 designates the usual webbings of the suspenders which cross each other intermediate their ends and are sewed together in the usual manner as indicated at 2. The ends of the webbings are provided with loops or other suitable means so that same may be attached to the rings 3. These webbingsl are also provided with the usual adjustable buckles 4. Loops 5 are hung upon the rings 3 and support the straps 6 which are formed with loops at each end for engaging the eyelets 7 which are provided upon the strips 8. These strips 8 are formed of metal which are accurate in shape so as to conform to the waist of the wearer and should be con structed preferably of material which may be easily bent and retain a desired shape.

By referring to Fig. 2 of the drawing it will be seen that the waist band bar 9 is curved so as to conform to the waist of the wearer and is secured to the trousers by means of the clamps 10 which are formed integral uponthe top edge thereof and bent over upon the outer face of the bar and are then curved upwardly so as to form a hook 11. The outer face of the bar 9 should be corrugated or otherwise roughened underneath the clamps 10 so that these clamps may firmly grip the waistband of the trousers or other lower garment 12 as is clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. Along the upper edge of the waist band bar 9 there is situated a plurality of the clasp tongues 13 which are bent over upon the inner face of the bar 9 so as to extend parallel with and a spaced distance from the bar. These tongues 13 are preferably formed integral with the bar 9 and it is to be understood that this bar 9 should preferably be constructed of a resilient metal so that a certain resiliency will not only'be inherent in the bar itself but also in the clamps 10 and clasp tongues 13. A clasp hook 14 is secured along the'lower edge of the waist band bar 9 so as to support the drawers or other under garment of the wearer when desired.

When it is desired to use the device described in detail above it will be readily understood that the waist band bar is attached, for example, to the waist band of the trousers 12 as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing by having the bar upon the inside of the waist band of the trousers and the clamps 10 upon the outside thereof. The hooks 11 of the clamps 10 may be used for supporting a key ring or any other desired use. The suspending portion of the device is then put on by the wearer and the shirt is placed thereover. The strips 8 may then be forced under the clasp tongues 13 as is shown in Fig. 3, of the drawing so that the tail of the shirt .or other garment wlll act as a lining between the strips 8 and the 'clasp tongues 13 and waist bar 9. Thus it will be seen that the suspending portion of the device will not be seen and at the same time will hold the lower portion of the shirt or other garment secured to the trousers or other lower garment and prevent the lower portion of the upper garment from riding out.

Of course it will be understood that as many of the clamps 10 may be used as may be found desirable and likewise the clasp tongues 13. The preferred form, however, of my invention is as illustrated showing the clamps 10 at the ends of the waist band bar 9 and the clasp tongues 13 arranged therebetween.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood without a more extended explanation. As numerous changes in form, proportion, and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of this invention, I do not wish to be lim-,

ited to the construction herein shown and described other than as claimed.

In a suspending device, a waist band bar being curved throughout its length, clamps situated upon one edge thereof, and curved over upon one face of the bar so as to hold same in engagement with a garment, clasp tongues situated on said edge of the bar so as to extend parallel with and spaced from the other face thereof, a strip adapted to be engaged by the clasp tongues, and
