UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LUDWIG LENDRY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BUST-SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 507,373, dated October 24, 1893. Application iiled .Tune 19, 1893. Serial No. 478.046. (No model.)
exact description.
The invention relates to garments, and its object is to provide a newand improved breast supporter, designed to take the place of the usual corset and arranged to properly support the breasts without inconvenience to the wearer.
The invention consists of certain parts and details, and combinations of the same, as will be hereinafter described and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of the improvement as applied. Fig. 2 is a face view of the improvement as extended; and Fig. 3 is a detail plan View of the shoulder strap fastening.
The improved breast supporter is provided with a waist-like garment A, arranged to conform readily to the shape of the body of the wearer, and preferably made of a Woven or knit fabric. On the front of the garment A are formed pockets B, made integral with the fabric and adapted to support the breasts. The garment A is also provided with shoulder straps C, made in one continuous piece or in separate iiaps as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3, the said shoulder straps permitting the wearer to readily pass the arms through the openings formed by the shoulder straps, as illustrated in Fig. 1.
On the rear ends of the garment A are formed vertically-disposed elastic straps E and E', made of rubber or other suitable material, the straps being united by suitable fastening devices when the garment is worn. As illustrated in Fig. 2, the elastic strap E is provided with loops F, adapted to engage buttons G, secured on the other strap E.
On the lower end of the garment A is arranged a waist-band D, made of an elastic material such as rubberand extending beyond the ends of the body portion of the garment and uniting with the lower ends of the straps E and E', the waist bands being provided with fastening devices similar to those on the end straps. By this arrangement the elastic waist-band D readily supports the lower end of.the fabric of 'which the garmentA is made, at the same time permitting free movement of the body of the wearer owing to the elasticity of the waist-band and of the garment A. The upper edge of the garment A is provided with a suitable lacing strap H, which permits of drawing the said edge together so as to readily cause the garment to conform to the shape of the wearersbody. As the garment is made of a material which readily conforms to t-he body, it will not inconvenience the wearer, and at the same time it will properly support the breasts and also give sufficient ventilationfor the body.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improved article of manufacture a breast supporter comprising a waist-like garment open in the back and made of a fabric adapted to conform readily to the shape of the body, the body portion being formed with integral pockets for the breasts, shoulder straps on the said garment, an elastic waist band extending beyond the ends of the body portion of the garment,'elastic straps at the Y ends of the body portion said straps being secured to the body portion at one of their edges and to the elastic waist band at their lower ends, and a fastening device arranged on the elastic straps, substantially as shown and described.
