Abstract
一種使一無線終端與雙模式能力進行通訊以及報告兩種網路的交互工作(interworking)之方法與裝置,且該無線終端具有從交互工作的該等網路中的其一取得服務之額外能力。
Description
本發明係關於具有雙模式能力的WTRUs,更特別地是關於用於報告雙模式能力與用於報告網路交互工作的可利用性之方法與裝置。
無線區域網路(WLAN)與通用封包無線電服務/通用行動電信服務/第三世代(GPRS/UMTS/3G)網路產生交互工作,致使其WLAN目前發展而導致產生了一種一共同外殼中包含有兩個無線電單元的產品(例如:支援802.11b+GPRS空中介面與802.11b+UMTS空中介面的卡片)。這些單元可以拆分為多個卡片,或是也可以整合在一個共同卡片中。
未來(hereafter),無線發射/接收單元(WTRU)包含有但不限制於一種使用者設備、行動台、固定或行動用戶單元、呼叫器或是任何能夠在無線環境中操作的其他類型的裝置。且當涉及到未來,基地台(BS)亦包含有但不限制於節點-B、位置控制器、存取點(AP)或是任何能夠在無線環境中操作的其他類型的介面裝置。
目前,網路可能無法察覺到終端的雙模式能力。除此之外,所賦予的服務則可基於在該終端能力上的處理功率、記憶體可利用
性、螢幕大小、位元速率等方面而進行動態改變。例如,雙模式802+GPRS個人數位助理(PDA)或許能夠透過GPRS或是802網路接收短訊服務(SMS)或是多媒體訊息服務(MMS)。然而,這些服務的不同差異性則可能要依據該無線終端所指定的記憶體位置而提供。多元化的多媒體服務相較於在PDA上所使用者將需要較大的記憶體大小。因此,相同的多媒體服務則可依賴其終端能力藉以透過黑色和白色或是色彩的簡化集合來提供。同樣的,網路輔助交遞換手(handoff)的可能性也可由這些能指出具有雙模式(WLAN/GPRS或是WLAN/3G)能力的終端來提供。因此將需要指出在這些現行的GPRS/UMTS的能力之機制。
此外,在網路交互工作中,沒有任何能力能夠告知無線終端具有雙模式無線電能力,也沒有任何能力可依賴網路其中之一並與其通訊以察覺其交互工作能力以便可啟動該無線終端去擁有與兩網路其中之任一進行通訊之增強能力。
本發明之特徵為一種包含用於啟動無線終端將雙模式能力進行通訊的方法和裝置,且更可提供一種用於報告兩網路的交互工作能力的方法和裝置,其中該無線終端具有從其交互工作網路其中之一得到服務的額外能力。

第1圖係為具有整合型的通用行動電話服務(UMTS)和無線區域網路(WLAN)網路的網路之簡單概要圖。

由本發明所解決的問題係為一種機制,其機制係為支援GPRS和WLAN兩者或是3G和WLAN兩者的終端,其終端並能夠報告其WLAN能力到其所支援的GPRS/UMTS網路中。同時,本發明更可識別該機制,其係由3G網路指出透過WLAN傳遞的3G或封包切換域服務是可使用的。
第1圖係顯示網路的簡單方塊圖,其中UMTS和WLAN是整合在一起的。而WTRUs 12、14和16則是透過個別的無線電鏈路(RL-1、RL-2和RL-3)與網路進行通訊,更特別的是,該WTRU 12係與一GSM無線電存取網路(RAN)進行通訊,該WTRU 14係與一2.5/3G RAN進行通訊,以及該WTRU 16係與一WLAN存取點(AP)進行通訊。當該WTRU 16是屬於膝上型輕便電腦(laptop)、個人數位助理(PDA)或是其他具有適當的卡片而可與該WLAN AP進行通訊等類似裝置,而該WTRUs 12和14則可以是蜂巢式電話。
該GSM RAN與一行動切換中心(MSC)進行通訊,其即如此技術領域所已知者,該GSM RAN具有與區域資料庫交互工作的能力。該MSC則與拜訪位置暫存器(VLR)進行通訊以對該WTRU 12進行辨別、驗證等等。該MSC也與短訊服務通訊閘行動切換中心/交互工作行動切換中心(SMS-GMSC/IW-MSC)進行通訊以提供譬如短訊服務(SMS)資料之服務。而起始位置暫存器(HLR)是一種資料
庫,其在起始公眾行動通訊網路(HPLMN)內提供行動終端的呼叫和SMS資料之路由資訊,同時也是作為分佈到相關VLR(請注意第1圖的VLR)或是GSN(GPRS支援節點)之使用者用戶資訊的維護,且其是藉著譬如局部區域和路由區域更新的附加處理和流動性管理程序來進行。
該WLAN AP與一封包資料通訊閘/WLAN存取通訊閘(PDG/WAG)進行通訊,而能力資訊則在GSN和PDG/WAG中進行交換,另外譬如SMS資料服務之服務則是被通訊到該PDG/WAG中,接著藉由該PDG/WAG和該WLAN AP而通訊到該WTRU 16中,且基於該WTRU 16的能力,該SMS資料因此而被傳送出。
在該等WTRU 12和14各自透過其相關的RAN而分別與網路進行通訊時,依照本發明所揭示,他們提供有關其能力的資訊係包含有WLAN相容性(compatibility)。
第2圖是顯示出結合有WLAN能力的附加程序。即如第2圖所顯示的程序,在步驟S1中,一UMTS雙模式WTRU啟動電源(power up)以建立信號連結而執行附加程序。在步驟S2中,一無線電資源控制(RRC)連結請求訊息係被運送到該無線電網路控制器(RNC)中。許可控制和資源可利用性係由該RNC所執行完成,即如步驟S3所示,接著運送一RRC連結建立訊息到雙模式的WTRU,即如步驟S4所示。而在步驟S5中,該WTRU提供一RRC連結建立完全訊息以提供該WTRU無線電存取(RA)相容性,且在步驟S6中,提供有初始直接傳送訊息,其包含有該附加請求以及點對多點系統資訊(PtM SI)、快速訊息系統資訊(IM SI)、網路(NW)能力與無線電存取(RA)能力。而在步驟S7中,該RNC提供給一服務GPRS支援節點(SGSN)一個初始WTRU訊息:包含有網路和無線電存取的附加請求。且加上該UMTS能力,該訊息更包含有WLAN能力。在步驟S8中,驗證與加密請求和安全模式指令被執行,且在步驟S9中該
WTRU亦被驗證。隨後,在步驟10中,該SGSN提供給該SGSN一WTRU能力以更新到該WAG-PDF中,且在步驟11中提供一個附加接受訊息到該RNC,接著在步驟S12中運送到WTRU中。
而在步驟S10中,傳送到該WAG-PDG的該WTRU能力之更新會導致該SGSN去更新該WAG,隨後因此可決定該服務請求能否被終止。
一行動台WTRU網路能力資訊元素的目的是在於提供包含有涉及關於GPRS的該WTRU方面資訊的網路。該資訊元素(IE)的內容可影響網路處理該WTRU運作的方法。WTRU網路能力資訊可指出一般WTRU特性,且除了由欄位明確所指出者之外,並具有傳送頻道的頻率帶的獨立性。
WTRU網路能力是一第4類資訊元素(IE),並具有十個八位元組(octet)中的最大長度。
該WTRU網路能力IE的值部分是被編碼的,並顯示在第3圖中。
第4圖是一個包含有本發明的網路能力資訊元素的現有網路能力IE的比較,以及第5圖則是顯示包含有本發明的無線電存取能力資訊元素(RAC IE)之RAC IE的比較。
該行動台(MS)網路能力IE的目的是用於提供包含有涉及關於GPRS的該行動台(即WTRU)方面資訊的網路。其內容可影響網路處理該行動台運作的方法,該MS網路能力資訊係指出一般行動台特性,且除了由欄位明確所指出之外,其是具有在其被轉寄頻道的頻率帶的獨立性。該MS網路能力是一第4類資訊元素(IE),且具有十個八位元組長度中的最大者。該MS網路能力IE的值部分是被編碼的,且顯示在第3圖中。
參考第4圖,其顯示在改良型態中的網路能力IE,其中在現有和新的IE的項目(I)中,即經由專用頻道的系統管理能力是相同的。而列出在現有和新的IE中的項目(2),即經由GPRS頻道的系統管理能力是相同的。在現有IE的項目(3)中,以及在項目(6)中的新的資訊元素,通用多重-八位元組編碼字元集(UCS),USC2十六位元編碼支援,則是相同的。
而在現有IE的項目(4)與新的IE的項目(7)中,即補充服務(SS)篩選指示器,是相同的。現有IE的項目(5)與新的IE的項目(8)中,其在局部服務地區的支援(SoLSA)能力,是相同的。
在現有IE的項目(6)中,修訂階層的指示器是相同於在新的IE的項目(9)。而在項目(4)和(5)的新的IE中,即系統管理能力可經由WLAN和短訊系統(SMS)項目以辨識僅文字、文字和動畫、快速訊息服務和多媒體服務與其他由WTRU所提供者,而其在現有IE中並不具備者。現有IE中的項目(7)到項目(10)是在新的IE中省略,且因相當簡易而將不在此討論。
第4A圖顯示網路能力的之較詳細說明。譬如,如第4A圖所示,位置服務(LCS)增值(VA)位置請求通知位元中,(在二進位格式中),當不支援時是"0",而在支援時則是"1"。而當WLAN能力的二進位位元是"1"時,其WLAN能力係為支援,反之,當在"0"狀態時,則是不支援。辨識每個能力的單一位元或是多個位元被指派在IE的預設位置上,這也是針對RA(無線電存取)能力的論據(case)。同樣地,當不支援時,請注意GPRS加密演算法(GEA)能力位元是"0",而在支援時則是"1"。
該行動台無線電存取(MS RA)能力資訊元素(IE)的目的是用於提供包含有涉及關於無線電的該行動台(即WTRU)方面資訊之無線電部分的網路。其內容可影響網路處理該行動台運作的方法。
該MS RA能力是一第4類資訊元素(IE),且具有52個八位元組中的最大長度。一MS RA能力資訊元素的值部分是被編碼的,且其顯示在第5A圖和第5B圖中。
第5圖則是一起比較現有和新的無線電存取能力IEs。在現有IE的項目(1)到項目(4)中,即該存取技術類型、該存取能力、該UMTS FDD RA技術能力和該UMTS 3.84 Mcps TDD RA技術能力,是與在新的IE之項目(1)到項目(4)相同。
現有IE的項目(5)和(6)是從新的IE中所省略的,其因相當簡易將不在此討論。新的IE的項目(5)是沒有出現在現有IE的項目中,其是提供WLAN無線電存取能力以識別遠端終端的類型(例如:PDA、簡易膝上型電腦、電話等)、記憶體大小、螢幕大小、處理功率、技術版本(如802.11、802.15、802.16等諸如此類者)、服務概要(例如僅SMS文字或是文字和動畫)、MMS、IMS、位置、MBMS及其類似者。
第5A1到5A2圖與第5B圖字顯示該MS RA能力IE之較詳細說明。在第5A1到5A2圖中,四個二進位的存取技術類型代表了用來存取的技術類型。高斯最小頻移鍵控(GMSK)是提供有良好頻譜效率的頻移鍵控(frequency shift keying)之一種形式。8PSK是一種改良技術,其中其載體是存在於八個狀態其中之一。第5B圖顯示其欄位與其二進位位元以識別出一些能力,譬如,一個三位元欄位是用在識別WLAN 802 RA技術,其中該技術是由二進位位元的特定組合所識別出的。請注意WLAN 802.xx技術的不支援是以"000"表示,而在WLAN 802.11b技術的支援時是以"001"等等諸如此類的方式表示。而在其他的例子中,當不支援時,CDMA 2000 RA技術能力是"0",反之,在支援時則是"1"。
一雙模式WTRU透過其UMTS(或是GPRS)網路提供
WLAN能力報告,並取決於該雙模式WTRU是否具有WLAN/UMTS或是WLAN/GPRS能力。
如第2圖所示,當WTRU係為電源啟動(power up),其首先將透過該UMTS頻道來進行通訊,並執行一非存取層(NAS)"附加"程序,隨之該UMTS/WLAN能力即與該網路進行交換,即如第2圖所示。
根據實施結果,如果可以,使用者可選擇去繼續與該UMTS網路進行通訊、手動切換到透過WLAN頻道或是在WLAN網路上進行自動交遞換手(handover)。
本發明係因此在WTRU和網路與網路和WTRU之間導入兩個新的IE到現有的GPRS/UMTS能力訊息。該無線電存取能力資訊元素(RAC IE)被改良以告知網路有關WTRU卡片的雙模式能力,該WTRU卡片即GPRS+WLAN或是UMTS/WLAN。該無線電存取能力(RAC)攜帶WLAN能力的所有層面,而該WLAN能力包含有終端類型(例如:PDA、簡易膝上型電腦、電話等)、記憶體大小、螢幕大小、處理功率、技術版本(如802.11、802.15、802.16等諸如此類)、服務概要(譬如僅SMS文字或是文字和動畫)、MMS、IMS、位置、組播廣播媒體服務(MBMS)以及其類似者。該WLAN能力的更新程序無須改良現有"附加"程序,而該網路能力則被改良以告知雙模式WTRU關於WLAN交互關係能力的存在與有關可透過WLAN網路所提供的服務的不同類型。
