技术领域
本发明涉及具有双模式能力的WTRU,更特别地是关于用于报告双模式能力与用于报告网络交互工作的可利用性的方法与装置。
背景技术
无线局域网络(WLAN)与通用分组无线电服务/全球移动电信系统/第三代(GPRS/UMTS/3G)网络产生交互工作,致使其WLAN目前发展而导致产生了共同外壳中包含有两个无线电单元的产品(例如:支持802.11b+GPRS空中接口与802.11b+UMTS空中接口的卡片)。这些单元可以为单独的卡片,或是也可以集成在一个共同卡片中。
在下文中,无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)包括但不限于用户设备、移动站、固定或行动用户单元、寻呼或是任何能够在无线环境中操作的其它类型的装置。且当下文提及,基站(BS)包括但不限于节点-B、站点控制器、接入点(AP)或是任何能够在无线环境中操作的其它类型的接口装置。
目前,网络可能无法察觉到终端的双模式能力。除此之外,所提供的服务则可基于在该终端能力上的处理功率、内存可利用性、屏幕大小、位速率等方面而进行动态改变。例如,双模式802+GPRS个人数字助理(PDA)或许能够通过GPRS或是802网络接收短消息服务(SMS)或是多媒体消息服务(MMS)。然而,这些服务的不同差异性则可能要依据该无线终端所指定的内存空间而提供。多元化的多媒体服务将需要比在PDA上可用的内存大小更大的内存大小。因此,相同的多媒体服务则可依赖其终端能力通过黑色和白色或是色彩的简化集合来提供。同样的,网络辅助交递(handoff)的可能性也可被提供给那些指示具有双模式(WLAN/GPRS或是WLAN/3G)能力的终端。因此将需要将这些能力指示给现行的GPRS/UMTS网络的机制。
此外,在网络交互工作中,没有任何能力能够告知无线终端具有双模式无线电能力,也没有任何能力可依赖与其通信的网络的其中之一察觉其交互工作能力以便使得该无线终端拥有与两网络其中的任一者进行通信的增强能力。
发明内容
本发明的特征为一种包含用于使得无线终端能够传送双模式能力的方法和装置,且还提供一种用于报告两网络的交互工作能力的方法和装置,其中该无线终端具有从其交互工作网络其中之一得到服务的额外能力。

具体实施方式
由本发明所解决的问题为一种机制,通过该机制,支持GPRS和WLAN两者或是3G和WLAN两者的终端,能够报告其WLAN能力给其所支持的GPRS/UMTS网络。同时,本发明更可识别该机制,通过该机制3G网络可指示通过WLAN的3G或分组切换(switch)域服务是可用的。
图1显示网络的简单框图,其中UMTS和WLAN是整合在一起的。而WTRU 12、14和16则是通过分别的无线电链路(RL-1、RL-2和RL-3)与网络进行通信。更特别的是,该WTRU 12与GSM无线电接入网络(RAN)进行通信,该WTRU 14系与一2.5/3G RAN进行通信,以及该WTRU 16系与一WLAN接入点(AP)进行通信。WTRU 12和14可以是蜂窝电话,而WTRU 16是属于膝上型计算机、个人数字助理(PDA)或是其它具有适当的卡片而可与该WLAN AP进行通信的类似装置。
GSM RAN与移动切换中心(MSC)进行通信,如本技术领域所公知,该MSC具有与区域(location)数据库交互工作的能力。该MSC则与访问位置寄存器(VLR)进行通信以对该WTRU 12进行辨别、验证等等。该MSC也与短消息服务通信网关移动切换中心/交互工作移动切换中心(SMS-GMSC/IW-MSC)进行通信以提供譬如短消息服务(SMS)数据的服务。而归属位置寄存器(HLR)是在归属公共陆地移动通信网络(HPLMN)内的一种数据库,该HLR提供移动终端的呼叫和SMS数据的路由信息,同时也负责通过诸如位置区域和路由区域更新之类的的附加处理和移动性管理程序来维护分布到相关VLR(请注意图1的VLR)或是GSN(GPRS支持节点)的用户订阅信息。
WLANAP与分组数据网关/WLAN接入网关(PDG/WAG)进行通信,而能力信息则在GSN和PDG/WAG中进行交换。诸如SMS数据服务之类的服务则是被传送到该PDG/WAG中,接着通过PDG/WAG和WLAN AP而传送到WTRU 16中。基于WTRU 16的能力,该SMS数据因此而被传送出。
依照本发明,WTRU 12和14在各自通过其相关的RAN而分别与网络进行通信时,提供有关其能力的信息,所述能力包含WLAN兼容性(compatibility)。
图2显示出结合有WLAN能力更新的附加程序。即如图2所显示的程序,在步骤S1中,UMTS双模式WTRU(UMTS_DUAL_MODE_WTRU)通电(power up)以建立信令连接而执行附加(ATTACH)程序。在步骤S2中,无线电资源控制(RRC)连接请求消息(RRC_CONNECTION_REQUEST)被传送到无线电网络控制器(RNC)中。许可控制和资源可利用性由RNC所执行完成,即如步骤S3所示,接着传送RRC连接建立消息(RRC_CONNECTION_SETUP)到双模式WTRU,即如步骤S4所示。而在步骤S5中,该WTRU提供RRC连接建立完成消息(RRC_CONNECTION_SETUP_COMPLETE)以提供WTRU无线电接入(RA)兼容性,且在步骤S6中,提供初始直接传输消息(INITIAL_DIRECT_TRANSFER),该消息包含有附加请求以及点对多点系统信息(PtM SI)、即时消息系统信息(IM SI)、网络(NW)能力(NW_CAPABILITY)与无线电接入(RA)能力(RA_CAPABILITY)。而在步骤S7中,该RNC提供给一服务GPRS支持节点(SGSN)一个初始WTRU消息:包含有网络和无线电接入能力的附加请求。除了该UMTS能力,该消息还包含有WLAN能力。在步骤S8中,验证与加密请求和安全模式指令被执行,且在步骤S9中该WTRU亦被验证。随后,在步骤10中,SGSN提供SGSN WTRU能力更新(UPDATE_WTRU_CAPABILITY)到WAG-PDF中,且在步骤11中提供附加接受消息(ATTACH_ACCEPT)到该RNC,接着在步骤S12中传送到WTRU中。
而在步骤S10中,传送到WAG-PDG的WTRU能力更新会导致SGSN去更新WAG,随后因此可决定该服务请求能否被终止。
移动站WTRU网络能力信息元素的目的是在于提供包含有涉及关于GPRS的WTRU方面信息给网络。该信息元素(IE)的内容可影响网络处理该WTRU运作的方法。WTRU网络能力信息可指出通用WTRU特性,且除了由字段明确所指出者之外,独立于传送信道的频段。
WTRU网络能力是第4类信息元素(IE),并具有十个八位字节(octet)中的最大长度。
WTRU网络能力IE的值部分是被编码的,并显示在图3中。
图4是一个包含有本发明的网络能力信息元素与现有网络能力IE的比较,以及图5则是显示包含有本发明的无线电接入能力信息元素(RAC IE)的RAC IE的比较。
移动站(MS)网络能力IE的目的是用于提供包含有涉及关于GPRS的移动站(即WTRU)方面信息给网络。其内容可影响网络处理该移动站运作的方法,该MS网络能力信息指出通用移动站特性,且除了明确所指出的字段之外,独立于其被发送所在的信道的频段。该MS网络能力是第4类信息元素(IE),且具有十个八位组长度中的最大值。该MS网络能力IE的值部分是被编码的,且显示在图3中。
参考图4,其显示在改良方式中的网络能力IE,其中在现有和新的IE两者的项目(1)中,即经由专用信道的系统管理能力是相同的。而在现有和新的IE中列出的项目(2),经由GPRS信道的系统管理能力是相同的。在现有IE的项目(3)中,以及在新的信息元素中的项目(6),通用多重-八位字节编码字符集(UCS),USC2十六位编码支持,则是相同的。
而在现有IE的项目(4)与新的IE的项目(7)中,补充服务(SS)筛选指示符,是相同的。现有IE的项目(5)与新的IE的项目(8)中,其对局部服务区域(SoLSA)能力的支持,是相同的。
在现有IE的项目(6)中,修订阶层的指示符与在新的IE的项目(9)相同。而在新的IE中的项目(4)和(5),即经由WLAN的系统管理能力,和识别仅文字、文字和动画、即时消息服务和多媒体服务的短消息系统(SMS)项目以及其他被提供给WTRU,而其在现有IE中并不提供。现有IE中的项目(7)到项目(10)从新的IE中省略,且为简化起见而将不在此讨论。
图4A显示网络能力的更详细细节。例如,如图4A所示,位置服务(LCS)增加值(VA)位置请求通知位(以二进制格式),当不支持时是“0”,而在支持时则是“1”。而当WLAN能力的二进制位是“1”时,则支持WLAN能力,反之,当在“0”状态时,则是不支持。识别每个能力的单一位或是多个位被指派在IE的预设位置上,这也是针对RA(无线电接入)能力的情况。同样地,当不支持时,请注意GPRS加密算法(GEA)能力位是“0”,而在支持时则是“1”。
该移动站无线电接入(MS RA)能力信息元素(IE)的目的是用于提供包含有涉及关于移动站(即WTRU)的无线电方面信息给网络的无线电部分。其内容可影响网络处理该移动站运作的方式。该MS RA能力是第4类信息元素(IE),且具有52个八位字节的最大长度。MS RA能力信息元素的值部分是被编码的,且其显示在图5A和图5B中。
图5比较了现有和新的无线电接入能力IE。在现有IE的项目(1)到项目(4)中,即接入技术类型、接入能力、UMTS FDD RA技术能力和UMTS3.84Mcps TDD RA技术能力,与在新的IE的项目(1)到项目(4)相同。
现有IE的项目(5)和(6)从新的IE中省略,为简化起见将不在此讨论。新的IE的项目(5)是没有出现在现有IE的项目中,其是提供WLAN无线电接入能力以识别远程终端的类型(例如:PDA、膝上型计算机、电话等)、内存大小、屏幕大小、处理功率、技术版本(如802.11、802.15、802.16等诸如此类者)、服务简档(例如仅SMS文字或是文字和动画)、MMS、IMS、位置、MBMS及其类似者。
图5A1到图5A2与图5B显示该MS RA能力IE的更详细细节。图5A1到图5A2中,四个二进制的接入技术类型代表了用来接入的技术类型。高斯最小频移键控(GMSK)是提供有良好频谱效率的频移键控(frequency shiftkeying)的一种形式。8PSK是一种改良技术,其中其载体是存在于八个状态的其中之一。图5B显示其字段与二进制位以识别出一些能力。例如,三位字段是用在识别WLAN 802RA技术,其中该技术是由二进制位的特定组合所识别出的。请注意WLAN 802.xx技术的不支持是以“000”表示,而对WLAN 802.11b技术的支持时是以“001”等等诸如此类的方式表示。而在其它的例子中,当不支持时,CDMA 2000RA技术能力是“0”,反之,在支持时则是“1”。
双模式WTRU根据该双模式WTRU是否具有WLAN/UMTS或是WLAN/GPRS能力而通过UMTS(或是GPRS)网络提供WLAN能力报告。
如图2所示,当WTRU通电时,其首先将透过UMTS信道来进行通信,并执行非接入层(NAS)“附加”程序,随之UMTS/WLAN能力即与网络进行交换,即如图2所示。
根据实施方式,如果可以,使用者可选择去继续与该UMTS网络进行通信、手动切换到WLAN信道或是在WLAN网络上进行自动移交(handover)。
本发明因此在WTRU和网络与网络和WTRU之间引入两个新的IE到现有的GPRS/UMTS能力消息。该无线电接入能力信息元素(RAC IE)被改良以告知网络有关WTRU卡片的双模式能力,该WTRU卡片即GPRS+WLAN或是UMTS/WLAN。该无线电接入能力(RAC)携带WLAN能力的所有层面,而该WLAN能力包含有终端类型(例如:PDA、膝上型计算机、电话等)、内存大小、屏幕大小、处理功率、技术版本(如802.11、802.15、802.16等诸如此类)、服务简档(例如仅SMS文字或是文字和动画)、MMS、IMS、位置、组播广播媒体服务(MBMS)以及其类似者。该WLAN能力的更新程序无须改良现有“附加”程序,而该网络能力则被改良以告知双模式WTRU关于WLAN交互关系能力的存在与有关可通过WLAN网络所提供的服务的不同类型。

Claims (14)
1.一种在双模式无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)中使用的方法,该方法包括:
产生关联请求消息,该关联请求消息指示对于与第一无线电接入技术的网络节点相关联的请求,并且该关联请求消息包括用于指示所述WTRU是否能够经由第二无线电接入技术进行通信的能力指示符,其中所述第二无线电接入技术是分组交换技术;
将所述关联请求消息传送给所述网络节点;以及
基于所述能力指示符来接收服务。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述第二无线电接入技术是基于IEEE 802.11的技术、通用分组无线电服务(GPRS)或者IEEE 802.16。
