Description
【技术领域】
本发明系关于具有双模式能力的WTRUs,更特别地是关于用于报告双模式能力与用于报告网络交互工作的可利用性的方法与装置。
【背景技术】
无线局域网络(WLAN)与整合封包无线电服务/通用行动电信服务/第三世代(GPRS/UMTS/3G)网络产生交互工作,致使其WLAN目前发展而导致产生了一种一共同外壳中包含有两个无线电单元的产品(例如:支持802.11b+GPRS空中接口与802.11b+UMTS空中接口的卡片)。这些单元可以拆分为多个卡片,或是也可以整合在一个共同卡片中。
未来(hereafter),无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)包含有但不限制于一种使用者设备、行动工作站、固定或行动用户单元、呼叫器或是任何能够在无线环境中操作的其它类型的装置。且当涉及到未来,基地台(BS)亦包含有但不限制于节点-B、位置控制器、存取点(AP)或是任何能够在无线环境中操作的其它类型的接口装置。
目前,网络可能无法察觉到终端的双模式能力。除此之外,所赋予的服务则可基于在该终端能力上的处理功率、内存可利用性、屏幕大小、位速率等方面而进行动态改变。例如,双模式802+GPRS个人数字助理(PDA)或许能够通过GPRS或是802网络接收短讯服务(SMS)或是多媒体讯息服务(MMS)。然而,这些服务的不同差异性则可能要依据该无线终端所指定的内存位置而提供。多元化的多媒体服务相较于在PDA上所使用者将需要较大的内存大小。因此,相同的多媒体服务则可依赖其终端能力藉以通过黑色和白色或是色彩的简化集合来提供。同样的,网络辅助交递换手(handoff)的可能性也可由这些能指出具有双模式(WLAN/GPRS或是WLAN/3G)能力的终端来提供。因此将需要指出在这些现行的GPRS/UMTS的能力的机制。
此外,在网络交互工作中,没有任何能力能够告知无线终端具有双模式无线电能力,也没有任何能力可依赖网络其中的一并与其通讯以察觉其交互工作能力以便可激活该无线终端去拥有与两网络其中的任一进行通讯的增强能力。
【发明内容】
本发明的特征为一种包含用于激活无线终端将双模式能力进行通讯的方法和装置,且更可提供一种用于报告两网络的交互工作能力的方法和装置,其中该无线终端具有从其交互工作网络其中的一得到服务的额外能力。

【具体实施方式】
由本发明所解决的问题系为一种机制,其机制系为支持GPRS和WLAN两者或是3G和WLAN两者的终端,其终端并能够报告其WLAN能力到其所支持的GPRS/UMTS网络中。同时,本发明更可识别该机制,其系由3G网络指出通过WLAN传递的3G或封包切换域服务是可使用的。
图1系显示网络的简单方块图,其中UMTS和WLAN是整合在一起的。而WTRUs 12、14和16则是通过个别的无线电链路(RL-1、RL-2和RL-3)与网络进行通讯,更特别的是,该WTRU 12系与一GSM无线电存取网络(RAN)进行通讯,该WTRU 14系与-2.5/3G RAN进行通讯,以及该WTRU 16系与一WLAN存取点(AP)进行通讯。当该WTRU 16是属于膝上型轻便计算机(laptop)、个人数字助理(PDA)或是其它具有适当的卡片而可与该WLAN AP进行通讯等类似装置,而该WTRUs 12和14则可以是蜂巢式电话。
该GSM RAN与一行动切换中心(MSC)进行通讯,其即如此技术领域所已知者,该GSM RAN具有与区域数据库交互工作的能力。该MSC则与拜访位置缓存器(VLR)进行通讯以对该WTRU 12进行辨别、验证等等。该MSC也与短讯服务通讯闸行动切换中心/交互工作行动切换中心(SMS-GMSC/IW-MSC)进行通讯以提供譬如短讯服务(SMS)资料的服务。而起始位置缓存器(HLR)是一种数据库,其在起始公众行动通讯网路(HPLMN)内提供行动终端的呼叫和SMS资料的路由信息,同时也是作为分布到相关VLR(请注意图1的VLR)或是GSN(GPRS支持节点)的使用者用户信息的维护,且其是借着譬如局部区域和路由区域更新的附加处理和流动性管理程序来进行。
该WLAN AP与一封包数据通讯闸/WLAN存取通讯闸(PDG/WAG)进行通讯,而能力信息则在GSN和PDG/WAG中进行交换,另外譬如SMS资料服务的服务则是被通讯到该PDG/WAG中,接着通过该PDG/WAG和该WLAN AP而通讯到该WTRU 16中,且基于该WTRU 16的能力,该SMS资料因此而被传送出。
在该等WTRU 12和14各自通过其相关的RAN而分别与网络进行通讯时,依照本发明所揭示,他们提供有关其能力的信息系包含有WLAN兼容性(compatibility)。
图2是显示出结合有WLAN能力的附加程序。即如图2所显示的程序,在步骤S1中,一UMTS双模式WTRU激活电源(power up)以建立信号连结而执行附加程序。在步骤S2中,一无线电资源控制(RRC)连结请求讯息系被运送到该无线电网络控制器(RNC)中。许可控制和资源可利用性系由该RNC所执行完成,即如步骤S3所示,接着运送一RRC连结建立讯息到双模式的WTRU,即如步骤S4所示。而在步骤S5中,该WTRU提供一RRC连结建立完全讯息以提供该WTRU无线电存取(RA)兼容性,且在步骤S6中,提供有初始直接传送讯息,其包含有该附加请求以及点对多点系统信息(PtM SI)、快速讯息系统信息(IM SI)、网络(NW)能力与无线电存取(RA)能力。而在步骤S7中,该RNC提供给一服务GPRS支持节点(SGSN)一个初始WTRU讯息:包含有网络和无线电存取的附加请求。且加上该UMTS能力,该讯息更包含有WLAN能力。在步骤S8中,验证与加密请求和安全模式指令被执行,且在步骤S9中该WTRU亦被验证。随后,在步骤10中,该SGSN提供给该SGSN-WTRU能力以更新到该WAG-PDF中,且在步骤11中提供一个附加接受讯息到该RNC,接着在步骤S12中运送到WTRU中。
而在步骤S10中,传送到该WAG-PDG的该WTRU能力的更新会导致该SGSN去更新该WAG,随后因此可决定该服务请求能否被终止。
一行动工作站WTRU网络能力信息组件的目的是在于提供包含有涉及关于GPRS的该WTRU方面信息的网络。该信息组件(IE)的内容可影响网络处理该WTRU运作的方法。WTRU网络能力信息可指出一般WTRU特性,且除了由字段明确所指出者之外,并具有传送频道的频率带的独立性。
WTRU网络能力是一第4类信息组件(IE),并具有十个八字节(octet)中的最大长度。
该WTRU网络能力IE的值部分是被编码的,并显示在图3中。
图4是一个包含有本发明的网络能力信息组件的现有网络能力IE的比较,以及图5则是显示包含有本发明的无线电存取能力信息组件(RAC IE)的RAC IE的比较。
该行动工作站(MS)网络能力IE的目的是用于提供包含有涉及关于GPRS的该行动工作站(即WTRU)方面信息的网络。其内容可影响网络处理该行动工作站运作的方法,该MS网络能力信息系指出一般行动工作站特性,且除了由字段明确所指出之外,其是具有在其被转寄频道的频率带的独立性。该MS网络能力是一第4类信息组件(IE),且具有十个八位组长度中的最大者。该MS网络能力IE的值部分是被编码的,且显示在图3中。
参考图4,其显示在改良型态中的网络能力IE,其中在现有和新的IE的所述目(1)中,即经由专用频道的系统管理能力是相同的。而列出在现有和新的IE中的所述目(2),即经由GPRS频道的系统管理能力是相同的。在现有IE的所述目(3)中,以及在所述目(6)中的新的信息组件,通用多重-八字节编码字符集(UCS),USC2十六位编码支持,则是相同的。
而在现有IE的所述目(4)与新的IE的所述目(7)中,即补充服务(SS)筛选指示器,是相同的。现有IE的所述目(5)与新的IE的所述目(8)中,其在局部服务地区的支持(SoLSA)能力,是相同的。
在现有IE的所述目(6)中,修订阶层的指示器是相同于在新的IE的所述目(9)。而在所述目(4)和(5)的新的IE中,即系统管理能力可经由WLAN和短讯系统(SMS)所述目以辨识仅文字、文字和动画、快速讯息服务和多媒体服务与其它由WTRU所提供者,而其在现有IE中并不具备者。现有IE中的所述目(7)到所述目(10)是在新的IE中省略,且因相当简易而将不在此讨论。
图4A显示网络能力的的较详细说明。譬如,如图4A所示,位置服务(LCS)增值(VA)位置请求通知位中,(在二进制格式中),当不支持时是“0”,而在支持时则是“1”。而当WLAN能力的二进制位是“1”时,其WLAN能力系为支持,反的,当在“0”状态时,则是不支持。辨识每个能力的单一位或是多个位被指派在IE的预设位置上,这也是针对RA(无线电存取)能力的论据(case)。同样地,当不支持时,请注意GPRS加密算法(GEA)能力位是“0”,而在支持时则是“1”。
该行动工作站无线电存取(MS RA)能力信息组件(IE)的目的是用于提供包含有涉及关于无线电的该行动工作站(即WTRU)方面信息的无线电部分的网络。其内容可影响网络处理该行动工作站运作的方法。该MS RA能力是一第4类信息组件(IE),且具有52个八字节中的最大长度。一MS RA能力信息组件的值部分是被编码的,且其显示在图5A和第5B图中。
图5则是一起比较现有和新的无线电存取能力IEs。在现有IE的所述目(1)到所述目(4)中,即该存取技术类型、该存取能力、该UMTS FDD RA技术能力和该UMTS3.84 Mcps TDD RA技术能力,是与在新的IE的所述目(1)到所述目(4)相同。

第5A1到5A2图与第5B图字显示该MS RA能力IE的较详细说明。在第5A1到5A2图中,四个二进制的存取技术类型代表了用来存取的技术类型。高斯最小频移键控(GMSK)是提供有良好频谱效率的频移键控(frequency shift keying)的一种形式。8PSK是一种改良技术,其中其载体是存在于八个状态其中的一。第5B图显示其字段与其二进制位以识别出一些能力,譬如,一个三位字段是用在识别WLAN 802 RA技术,其中该技术是由二进制位的特定组合所识别出的。请注意WLAN 802.xx技术的不支持是以“000”表示,而在WLAN 802.11b技术的支持时是以“001”等等诸如此类的方式表示。而在其它的例子中,当不支持时,CDMA 2000 RA技术能力是“0”,反的,在支持时则是“1”。
一双模式WTRU通过其UMTS(或是GPRS)网络提供WLAN能力报告,并取决于该双模式WTRU是否具有WLAN/UMTS或是WLAN/GPRS能力。
如图2所示,当WTRU系为电源激活(power up),其首先将通过该UMTS频道来进行通讯,并执行一非存取层(NAS)“附加”程序,随的该UMTS/WLAN能力即与该网络进行交换,即如图2所示。
根据实施结果,如果可以,使用者可选择去继续与该UMTS网络进行通讯、手动切换到通过WLAN频道或是在WLAN网络上进行自动交递换手(handover)。
本发明系因此在WTRU和网络与网络和WTRU的间导入两个新的IE到现有的GPRS/UMTS能力讯息。该无线电存取能力信息组件(RAC IE)被改良以告知网络有关WTRU卡片的双模式能力,该WTRU卡片即GPRS+WLAN或是UMTS/WLAN。该无线电存取能力(RAC)携带WLAN能力的所有层面,而该WLAN能力包含有终端类型(例如:PDA、简易膝上型计算机、电话等)、内存大小、屏幕大小、处理功率、技术版本(如802.11、802.15、802.16等诸如此类)、服务概要(譬如仅SMS文字或是文字和动画)、MMS、IMS、位置、组播广播媒体服务(MBMS)以及其类似者。该WLAN能力的更新程序无须改良现有“附加”程序,而该网络能力则被改良以告知双模式WTRU关于WLAN交互关系能力的存在与有关可通过WLAN网络所提供的服务的不同类型。

18.根据权利要求16所述的方法,其特征在于,该无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)将该二进制状态插入该信息组件(IE)的特定位中以识别所支持的服务能力,该服务能力包含有通过一无线局域网络(WLAN)的SMS能力和通过整合封包无线电系统(GPRS)频道的SMS能力。
19.根据权利要求15所述的方法,其特征在于,该无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)通过发射一信息组件(IE)以告知该网络其能力。
20.根据权利要求14所述的方法,该无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)更包含:当在一第一模式下运作时与一整合封包无线电系统(GPRS)网络进行通讯;以及当在一第二模式下运作时与一无线局域网络(WLAN)进行通讯。
21.根据权利要求14所述的方法,其特征在于,该无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)更包含:
当在一第一模式下运作时与一UMTS网络进行通讯;以及当在一第二模式下运作时与一无线局域网络(WLAN)进行通讯。
22.根据权利要求14所述的方法,其特征在于,该无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)在当选择性地接收可移除地插入该无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)的一通讯卡片以支持复数无线局域网络(WLAN)通讯卡片协议中的其一的时:
提供识别出该插入的通讯卡片的一讯息网络。
23.根据权利要求22所述的方法,其特征在于,该通讯协议包含无线局域网络(WLAN)802协议以及该讯息识别由该无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)所支持的协议。
24.根据权利要求22所述的方法,其特征在于,该通讯协议包含无线局域网络(WLAN)802.11a和无线局域网络(WLAN)802.11b。
25.根据权利要求22所述的方法,其特征在于,该通讯协议包含无线局域网络(WLAN)802.11b和无线局域网络(WLAN)802.16。
26.根据权利要求14所述的方法,其特征在于,包含该无线发射/接收单元(WTRU):
发射具有位位置的一讯息,每一位位置识别一给定无线局域网络(WLAN)通讯协议;以及
将一给定二进制状态插入至指示由该无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)所支持的一协议的位中。
27.一种报告一无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)能力的方法,该无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)能够支持一无线局域网络(WLAN)和一整合封包无线电系统/通用行动电信系统(GPRS/UMTS)服务,该方法包含:
该无线发射/接收单元(WTRU):
告知一核心网络其能力以支持无线局域网络(WLAN)和整合封包无线电系统/通用行动电信系统(GPRS/UMTS)两服务;以及
该核心网络:
传送一无线电存取能力信息组件指示无线局域网络(WLAN)交互工作和无线局域网络(WLAN)能力以指示无线局域网络(WLAN)交互工作是否受到支持或是不受支持。
28.根据权利要求27所述的方法,其特征在于,更包含:
该无线发射/接收单元(WTRU):
传送一能力以支持多重服务作为一信息组件(IE)的部份。
29.根据权利要求28所述的方法,其特征在于,该无线发射/接收单元(WTRU)包含:
传送一无线电存取能力(RAC)信息组件(IE)。
30.根据权利要求27所述的方法,其特征在于,该核心网络包含:
传送交互工作和无线局域网络(WLAN)能力以作为一信息组件(IE)的一部份。
