Bir kaynak lazer ışın demeti (L1), iş parçalarında (W1, W2) oturtulan kaynak yerleri (C11, C12) boyunca ışımaktadır veya bir kontrol lazer ışın demeti (L5), kaynak lazer ışın demetinin (L1) ışıması aracılığıyla eritilen iş parçalarının (W1, W2) eriyik havuzunda (Y1) oturtulan tarama yerleri (C51, C52) boyunca ışımaktadır; iş parçalarının eriyik havuzundan (Y1) gelen yansıma ışığı, iş parçalarının eritilmesi ve buharlaştırılmasından dolayı oluşan buhar ışığı ve iş parçalarının eriyik havuzundan (Y1) ışıyan termal radyasyon ışığını içeren geri dönen ışık demeti (L2) alınmaktadır; ve iş parçalarının kaynak yapılmış bölümünün kaynak durumu, bu şekilde alınan geri dönen ışık demetinin (L2) yoğunluk değişimine bağlı olarak kontrol edilmektedir.
