The proposed method of controlling the electroslag remelting process (ESR) can be used in special electrometallurgy in the smelting of hollow ingots from high-quality steels and alloys. A known method for measuring the level of a metal in a crystallizer on continuous metal casting installations, in which the position of the level is determined between adjacent thermocouples located along the height of the crystallizer and differentially connected. This method of controlling the ESR process cannot be used in the smelting of hollow ingots because of the specific technological scheme of the remelting process itself. The purpose of the invention is to improve the quality of regulation of the ESR process and the surface quality of the melted ingot. It is proposed to control the relative movement of the ingot and mandrel to a signal proportional to the difference between the set and the current temperature of the metal in the zone of contact between the ingot and the mandrel. The drawing shows the scheme for smelting hollow ingots. The circuit comprises an inner mold 1, a hollow ingot 2, a mandrel 3, a remelted electrode 4, a slag bath 5, a photoelectric sensor 6. The crystallizer and the ingot remain stationary during the remelting process. The mandrel, which forms the ingot cavity, moves upward as it is directed, and a gap is formed between the mandrel and the ingot below point A. Above point A, the molten metal and shlak fit tightly to the mandrel. If the mandrel is raised at high speed, the molten metal does not have time to crystallize in zone A and through the gap will flow from the external crystallizer. In the case of a slow rise of the mandrel, the metal will have time to crystallize and, due to cooling, will shrink, preventing the mandrel from moving upwards. Thus, in order to properly conduct the process of electroslag remelting, it is necessary to move the mold upwards at the moment when the molten metal in zone A had time to crystallize, but it did not give another shrinkage that prevented
