Abstract
1,006,567. Paper-making machines. FELDMUHLE A.G. April 16, 1962 [April 26, 1961], No. 14677/62. Heading D2A. Multi-layer webs of fibrous material, such as paper, are formed by passing pulp suspensions along separate channels superposed directly one above the other on to an inclined portion of a wirecloth. Suction chambers arranged behind the wirecloth relative to each channel have provision for independently controllable reduced pressure in each chamber. In one embodiment, the pulp is supplied along three independent channels 1, 2, 3 to wire 7 inclined at an angle greater than 20 degrees to the direction of flow in the channels and behind which are the suction chambers 8-12. Pulp water is independently circulated from these. A housing 20 filled with water up to the same level as that in the channel 3 surrounds the suction chambers and prevents loss of fibres through the gap 21. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), top and bottom channels are supplied from one inlet and the middle channel is separately supplied. In addition instead of the housing 20, a sealing device is provided to prevent leakage from the channel 22 at the gap beside the wire.
