Plastsammensetning.
Description
Oppfinnelsen vedrører flammemotstandsdyktige polymer-sammensetninger og spesielt klorholdige alifatiske "polymere, kopolymere og poly-blandinger.
I DAS 2.648.701 omtales en sammensetning omfattende en klorholdig alifatisk polymer og a) en ester av fosforsyre og
b) en forbindelse med formel:
hvori R betyr et aromatisk hydrokarbon eller heterocyklisk holdig
residu, n er et helt tall på minst 2, og X som kan være like eller forskjellige betyr en avspaltbar gruppe.
Det er nu funnet at visse oligomere når de benyttes som forbindelse R(CH2X)ntilveiebringer i forbindelse med fosforsyreestere sammensetninger som har gode plastiserende egenskaper og de oligomere har også fordelen med lav fordampbarhet. Samtidig kan en ildhemmende effekt av fosforforbindelsene i de klorholdige alifatiske polymere forbedres vesentlig ved bruk av visse be-stemte tilsetninger. Som et resultat kan det enten oppnås en større ildhemming uten å øke fosforinnholdet av den polymere eller samme ildhemming kan oppnås ved et lavere fosforinnhold.
Følgelig tilveiebringes foreliggende oppfinnelse sammensetninger omfattende en klorholdig alifatisk polymer, kopolymer eller poly-blanding, og a) en es.ter av en fosforsyre og b) en aromatisk hydrokarbonoligomer med formel:
hvori A betyr minst et aromatisk hydrokarbon eller heterocyklisk rest, X betyr OH eller et derivat herav, a betyr 2 til 20, men er lik b + ti + 1, b = 0-19, c= 0-19, d = 0 til 2a og m = 0-10, fortrinnsvis 0-5, spesielt 0, idet det er minst to (-CH2X)-grupper pr. molekyl idet gruppen (-CH20CH2-) teller som (-CH2X) for dette formål.
Det skal bemerkes at verdiene av a, b, c, d og n er gjennomsnittsverdier for gjennomsnittsmolekyler med formel II.
Eksempler på aromatiske residuer A er benzen, naftalen, furan, antracen, bifenyl og difenyleter. Den aromatiske rest A kan være usubstituert eller substituérfrtmed en eller to sub-stituenter. Den er fortrinnsvis usubstituert, men hvis den er substituert har den fortrinnsvis bare en substituent . Egnede substi-tuenter innbefatter halogen, alky1-grupper med 1 til 4 karbonatomer, haloalkylgrupper med 2 til 4 karbonatomer, og gruppen OR^, hvor R betyr hydrogen, alkyl med 1 til 4 karbonatomer eller acyl med
1 til 4 karbonatomer.
Forbindelsene representert^med formel II er blandinger av oligomere med et område av molekylvekter. Restene A er forbundet med (-CH2~) eller £*"CH2( 0CH2 )mOCH2-Jgrupper, disse to forbindende grupper er forbundet bare til en rest A og ikke til hverandre. Gruppene (-CH2X) er forbundet til en rest A.' ;Fortrinnsvis mer enn 50 mol% av restene A er avledet fra naftalen, spesielt mer enn 75 mol% av restene A er avledet fra naftalen. ;Oligomere som foretrekkes er de som har en tallmessig ' molekylvekt på 300 til 3500, mer spesielt de som har en tallmessig gjennomsnittlig molekylvekt på 350-1500, spesielt 400 til 1000. Det foretrekkes at naftalenrestene er forbundet med (-CH-20CH2-) og at disse ledd bør være forbundet til stillingene 1,4;1,5; 1,6; 1,7; 2,5; 2,6; eller 2,7 på naftalenresten. Mengden av a) sammen med b) som kan benyttes pr. 100 deler polymer er fra 0,1 til 150 deler, fortrinnsvis 2-100 deler, mer spesielt 5 til 50 deler, helt spesielt 5-25 vektdeler. De aktuelle mengder av a) pluss b) benyttet vil variere avhengig av spesielle homopolymer, kopolymer eller poly-blanding som benyttes og type og mengde av andre bestanddeler som kan være tilstede som fyllstoffer og armeringsfibre (omtalt nedenfor).

Hvis et organisk pigment benyttes, kan det eksempelvis være ftalocyanin som kan være et metall-ftalocyanin som kobber-ftalocyanin, et metallfritt ftalocyanin eller et klorinert metall eller metallfritt ftalocyanin, f.eks.
et klormetylert ftalocyanin. Andre organiske pigmenter innbefatter azo-pigmenter (monoazo eller diazo) azo-metallsalter, antra-kinon og metall komplekser. Hvis det benyttes et organisk pigment, kan det eksempelvis være titan-dioksyd, karbon-sort eller jernoksyd.
Tilsetningen av Friedel Crafts-katalysatorer til sammensetningen kan i noen tilfelle gi en markert økning i ild-motstandsevnen. Denne effekt iakttas spesielt med aromatisk klormetyl-additiver.
Egnede Friedel Crafts-katalysatorer enten Bronsted eller Lewis-syrer innbefatter aluminium-klorid, sink-klorid, ferri-klorid, magnesium-klorid, stanno-klorid, stanni-klorid, butyl-tinn-triklorid, fosforsyre, p-toluen-sulfonsyre. I tillegg kan det benyttes en latens katalysator, f.eks. en som over-føres til en Friedel Crafts-katalysator ved varme eller ved fri-gjort hydrogen-klorid ved termisk spaltning av vinyl-klorid-poly-meren. Slike latente katalysatorer innbefatter sink-karbonat, stanno-oktoat, stanno-oksalat og tri-alkyl-fosfater.
Egnede fyllstoffer innbefatter asbest, glassfibre, kaolin og talkum.
Egnede sekundære plastifiseringsmidler eller drøyere er klorerte parafiner som er handelsvare under navnet "Cereclor", styrenharpiks som er handelsvare under navnet "DOW Re sin" 276-V2 og hydrokarbonderivater som er handelsvare under navnet "Iranolin PDL18".
Andre vanlige ildhemmende tilsetninger kan være tilstede som antimonoksyd.
Eksempler på røkundertrykkere som kan være tilstede innbefatter ferrocen, aluminiumhydrat og tetrafenyl-bly.
Blandinger av' fosforsyre-estere kan benytte.s hvås ønsket sammen med en eller flere kjente fosforfrie plastifiseringsmidler, f.eks. som blandinger av fosfat og ftalat-estere eller blandinger av fosfat og adipat-estere.
Imidlertid er fortrinnsvis fosforsyre-esteren tilstede i en konsentrasjon på minst '50$, fortrinnsvis i en konsentrasjon på 75$ av slike blandinger. Imidlertid, hvor visse haloalkyl-fosfater benyttes alene eller i blandinger med aryl-fosfater, kan tilfredsstillende resultater oppnås med opptil 90$ fosfor-fri plastifiseringsmiddel.

I tillegg kan det benyttes forskjellåggepolyestere, eksempelvis polyestere avledet av adipinsyre og en glykol ende-stoppet med en alkolaol eller mono-basisk syre, polyestere avledet fra AGS-syrer (en kommersiell blanding av adipin, glutar og ravsyre) og en glykol ende-stoppet med en alkohol eller mono-basisk syre, polyestere avledet fra ftal-anhydrid og en eller flere glykoler, eventuelt endestoppet av en alkohol eller mono-basisk syre, polyestere avledet fra en blandet ftal/adipin-syre og en glykol, eventuelt endestoppen av en alkohol eller mono-basisk syre, polyestere avledet fra blandede ftal/AGS-syrer og en glykol, eventuelt endestoppet med en alkohol eller mono-basisk syre. I tillegg kan det benyttes polyestere av disse typer modifisert med et lakton, f.eks. e-caprolakton.
Eksempler på blandinger av estere av fosforsyrer med andre plastifiseringsmidler, stabilisatorer, fyllstoffer etc. som kan benyttes med de oligomere innbefatter følgende angitt i Tabell C..
I tillegg kan en hvilken som helst av de ovennevnte kombinasjoner eller en hvilken som helst fosforsyre-ester eller blanding av fosforsyreestere eller kombinasjoner av disse med eller uten andre eventuelt fosforfrie plastifiserer benyttes med silica, barium-metaborat,,Sb20^og fortynnede former herav, Al(OH)^ eller "alumini-trihydrat", karbon, kalsium-karbonater, leir-fyllstoffer og stearinsyre-belagt kalsiumkarbonat tas alene eller i en hvilken som helst kombinasjon.
Når det benyttes kombinasjoner av estere eller plasti-fiserere, kan forholdene varieres over et vidt område, og vil normalt avhenge av endelig bruk, hvortil den polymere skal anvendes, f.eks hvorvidt det er ønsket en sort eller klar polymer. Slike variasjoner vil være klare for fagfolk på området.
De oligomere i henhold til oppfinnelsen kan fremstilles etter vanlige metoder, eksempelvis: a) omsetningen av naftalen med formaldehyd i nærvær av en syrekatalysator for å danne oligomere med strukturer
som har overveiende metylen (-CH2~) og acetal (-(:CH20)n-CH2~) ledd med noen di-metylen-eter-ledd (-CH2-0-CH2-)
eller
b) ved klormetylering av naftalen for å danne blandinger av mono, di og høyere klormetyl-naftalener som deretter
hydrolyseres og loligomeriseres for å danne oligomere med overveiende di-metylen-eter (-CH"2-0-CH"2-) og metylen-(-CH2> ledd eller
c) ved omsetning av en klormetylert aromatisk forbindelse, f.eks. benzyl-klorid, med formaldehyd eller efe forstadium
herav som trioksymetylen og en sur katalysator for å gi et klormetylert diaryl-metan, f.eks. bis-klormetyl-di-fenylmetan.
Sistnevnte hydrolyseres og oligomeriseres med vandig natriumkarbonat eller overføres via acetoksymetyl-forbindelser til hydroksymetyl-derivater og oligomeriseres deretter med en sur katalysator.
Generelle metoder for fremstilling av de oligomere som benyttes i eksemplene er følgende:
Klormetylering (se tabell 1)
Reaksjonen utføres i et effektivt avtrekk p.g.a. mulig-heten av dannelse av bis-klormetyl-eter i dampfase over reaksjonsblandingen.
En 5-litersffire-halset rundkolbe utstyres med rørverk, termometer, gassinnløpsrør og tilbakeløpskjøler. Avgassen fra reaksjonen føres til en "scrubber" hvori 2 liter vann sirkuleres kontinuerlig og opprettholdes alkalisk overfor fenolftalein ved i mikse tning av 46$ vekt/volum vandig natriumhydroksyd som nødvendig.
Reaksjonsdeltagerne angitt i Tabell 1 fylles i flasken
og oppvarmes og omrøres ved 90°C i nødvendig tid for å oppnå det ønskede nivå av klormetylering. Under denne periode føres hydrogenkloridgass inn i reaksjonsblandingen i den grad som er angitt i Tabell 1. Premadskridningen av klormetylering over-våkes ved NMR-analyse.
Gjennomføring av hydrogenklorid og omrøring stoppes og reaksjonsblandingen avkjøles til værelsetemperatur. Det vandige lag fjernes og råproduktet vaskes med to 1000 grams porsjoner av kaldt vann. Råproduktet er et hvitt, fast stoff.'
Hydrolyse av klormetylert' naftalen under anvendelse av vandig natriumkarbonat' ( se Tabell 2)
Til det rå klormetylerte naftalen settes den mengde av vannfritt natriumkarbonat som er angitt i Tabell 2 og 786 g vann for hvert gram mol vannfritt natriumkarbonat. Reaksj>ons-blandingen omrøres og oppvarmes ved 100°C i åtte timer.
Mengen natriumhydroksyd angitt i Tabell 2 tilsettes deretter som en 46$ volum/vekt vandig oppløsning, og oppvarmning og omrøring ved 100°C fortsettes i ytterligere seks timer. Blandingen avkjøles og den vandige fase fjernes ved dekantering.
Den organiske fase vaskes to ganger med vann ved 60°C og tørkes til slutt ved oppvarming og omrøring i 3. timer ved 110°C og 20 mm kvikksølvtrykk.
Oligomere avledet fra hydroksymetyT- naftalener eller hydroksymetyl- naftalen- oligomeré ( Tabell g)
Hydroksymetyl-forbindelsen oppvarmes i toluen (ca. 13$ volum/vekt) med 88$ fosforsyre (1$ volum/vekt^ som katalysator. Mengden av toluen og fosforsyre beregnes med hensyn til mengden
av hydroksymetyl-forbindelse. Reaksjonen utføres i en kolbe ut-styrt med et rørverk, termometer og en vannseparator montert på
en tilbakeløpskjøler. Reaksjonstidene ved 150°C og mengden med vann fjernet ved hjelp av vannseparatoren erangitt i Tabell 3.
Reaksjonsblandingen avkjøles, fortynnes med kloroform, vaskes to ganger med vann og oppløsningsmidlet fjernes ved opp varming i et destillasjonsapparat under nedsatt trykk. Produktet strippes til slutt ved 110°C i tre timer ved 20 mm Hg-trykk.
Overføring av klormetylnaftalen til tilsvarende acetoksymetyl-derivater ( se Tabell 4)
Reaksjonsdeltagerne angitt i Tabell 4 omrøres under til-bakeløp ved 122°C i ni timer. Etter avkjøling til værelsetemperatur filtreres reaksjonsblandingen og den hvite utfelling vaskes med varm eddiksyre. Filtratet og vaskevannet dryppes deretter under 20 mm kvikksølv-trykk til en maksimal indre temperatur på 100°C. Råproduktet omrøres deretter med diklormetan ved værelsetemperatur, filtreres, utfellingen vaskes med diklormetan og det kombinerte filtrat og vaskevann strippes under et trykk på 20 mm kvikksølv opp til en indre temperatur på 100°C for å etterlate produktet som destilleringsresidu.
Hydrolyse av acetoksymetyl- naftalene<r>til tilsvarende hydroksymetyl- naftalener ( se Tabell 5)
Hydrolysen utføres ved tilbakeløpskoking av acetoksymetyl-naftalen-med sin egen vekt av etanol i nærvær av 20% vandig natriumhydroksyd i fire til ni timer. Reaksjonsblandingen for - tynnes deretter med vann og avkjøles tilværelsetemperatur. Blandingen ekstraheres med eter, sistnevnte vaskes flere ganger med vann og tørkes deretter over natriumsulfat. Eteren fjernes ved destillering og residuet dryppes til slutt i en time ved 100°C og 20 mm kvikksølv-trykk.
1,5-bis-acetoksymetyl-naftalen ble renset under anvendelse av betingelsene angitt i Tabell 6.
Fremstilling av naftalen-oligomere anvendt i formu-leringene i Tabell 10 eksemplifiseres ved følgende metode.
En blanding av paraformaldehyd (114 g) vann (115 g) og konsentrert svovelsyre (85 g) ble oppvarmet til 95°C. Naftalen (120 g) ble tilsatt reaksjonsblandingen iløpet av 20 minutter ved 90-95°C. Blandingen ble deretter tilbakeløpskokt i to timer ved 105°C. Ved avkjøling ble det vandige lag avde-kantert og produktet vasket med fortynnet natriumkarbonat-opp-løsning for å fjerne syre. Uomsatt naftalen ble fjernet ved dampdestillering og det organiske produkt ble oppløst i toluen (300 ml), separert og tørket på en rotasjonsfordamper under vann og deretter oljepumpevakuum ved 90°C. Produktet var en meget viskos, blek-gul væske.
Utbytte = 120 g.

Oppfinnelsen skal forklares ved hjelp av følgende eksempler..
PVC-sammensetninger ble fremstilt ved å benytte flere forskjellige flammehemmende-sammensetninger som angitt i Tabell 8-13, mengden av bestanddelene angitt i vektdeler. Sammensetningene inneholdt 100 deler PVC og ble sammenblandet på en laboratorie to-valse-mølle i 15 minutter ved 165°C, og deretter ført til ark 15 x 15 x 0,25 cm i en oppvarmet presse ved 178°C. Arkene ble deretter lagret i fem dager ved en konstant temperatur på 23°C. Etter denne tid ble det målt IRHD (International Rubber Hardness Degrees BS 903) og oksygenindeks (01 ASTM 2863) på arkene.
Foråt sammenligningen kan gjøres med sammensetninger ikke-inneholdende forbindelse b) er sammenlignende eksempler inn-befattet.
Eksempler 1- 8
Ved å sammenligne eksemplene 1 til 8 med sammenligningseksempel A i Tabell 9, kan det sees at det oppnås en stor forbedring i flammemotstandsevne som målt ved oksygenindeks. Også eksemplene 1, 2, 5 og 6 har overlegen fleksibilitet sammenlignet med sammenligningseksempel A.
Eksempler 9 til 15
Eksemplene 9 til 15 i Tabell 10 viser virkningen av bruk av forskjellige fosforestere og flammemotstanden av PVC-sammensetninger. Haloalkyl-fosfater er spesielt effektive, spesielt de som anvendes i Eksemplene 10 og 12.
Eksempler 16 til 19
Tabell 11 viser virkningen av bruk av naftalen-oligomere fremstilt ved omsetning av naftalen og formaldehyd i nærvær av en katalysator. En forbedring i flammemotstand er vist i alle eksemplene og i eksempel 16 og 17 er også vist for-bedret fleksibilitet.

E ksempler 20 til 40
Eksemplene i Tabell 12 viser virkningen av bruk av en vanlig PVC-plastifiserer som del av sammensetningen. En spesielt effektiv fosforester er tris(2-klor-etyl)-fosfat. Sammensetninger med høy oksygenindeks og god fleksibilitet kan oppnås idet det benyttes disse formuleringer, f.eks. eks. nr. 28, 29, 31, 32, 33, 35, 36, 37 og 40.
Slike egenskaper kan ikke oppnås i PVC ved å benytte vanlig teknologi, dan en økning i flammemotstandsevne fører til en nedgang i fleksibilitet.
Eksempler 41- 46
Eksemplene i Tabell 13 viser virkningen av gradvis
økning av konsentrasjonen av naftalenoligomer. Det kan sees at en økning i oksygenindeks opptrer sammen med forbedring i fleksibilitet idet konsentrasjonen av naftalenoligomer øker.
Eksempler 47- 50
Tabell 14 viser bruk av mer enn en fosforester, sammmen
med vanlig PVC-plastiserer eller drøyer. I alle eksempler opptrer en forbedring i oksygenindeks og i eksemplene 47, 48 og 49 en forbedring i fleksibilitet også.
Fremstillingen av oligomere anvendt i formu-leringen av Tabell 15 er som tidligere angitt. Imidlertid, unntatt for oligomer nr. 38, ble råproduktene oppløst i toluen eller kloroform og vasket med vann før dampstripping og vakuum-stripping. Preparativ og analytiske data av disse oligomere er angitt i Tabell 15.
Tabell 15 viser at alle sammensetninger ifølge oppfinnelsen har overlegen oksygenindeks sammenlignet med prøven B'.
Claims (35)
1. Blanding, karakterisert ved at den omfatter en klor-holdig alifatisk polymer, kopolymer eller poly-blanding og a) en ester, av en fosforsyre. og b) en aromatisk hydrokarbonoligomer med formel:
hvori A minst betyr en aromatisk hydrokarbon eller heteroeyk-lisk rest, X betyr OH eller derivater herav, a er 2 til 20, men lik b + 6 + 1, b= 0 til 19, c = 0 til 19, d = 0 til 2a og m = 0 til 10, idet minst to (-CH2 X)-grupper pr. molekyl, idet gruppen (-CH2 0CH"2 -) teller som (-CH2 X) for dette formål.
