Abstract

La escoria metalurgica se expande para producir un solido de peso ligero formando un flujo de escoria liquida fundida, (45) de velocidad de flujo controlada y mezclando el flujo de escoria con una cantidad controlada de agua (43) y haciendo fluir la mezcla de interaccion de escoria y agua en un receptaculo (34). Se permite que la interaccion entre la escoria y el agua proceda durante un periodo de tiempo predeterminado para formar un solido expandido sin la adicion de ninguna agua de enfriamiento adicional, la cual en otras circunstancias templaria el material y lo vitrificaria. En el receptaculo (34), un rotor de alabes (32) opera para segmentar la mezcla de interaccion de escoria y agua y proyectar la mezcla segmentada a traves del aire para recolectarla en un monton.
