Abstract
La presente invencion se refiere a un catalizador almacenador para oxidos de nitrogeno, que contiene por lo menos un material catalizador como tambien por lo menos un componente de almacenamiento para oxidos de nitrogeno seleccionado de entre el grupo consistente en los metales alcalinos y alcalino-terreos. El catalizador almacenador para oxidos de nitrogeno se caracteriza porque despues de la manufactura del catalizador el componente de almacenamiento de los oxidos de nitrogeno se halla presente en forma de sulfato de bario, sulfato de bario, en forma de finas particulas, o en forma de mezcla o de mezcla cristalina de ambos sulfatos o como el producto de su descomposicion, total o parcial, siendo el diametro medio de sus particulas, inferior a 1 mum. El sulfato de bario y/o el sulfato de estroncio funcionan en el catalizador almacenador de acuerdo con la invencion, como material de reserva para el oxido de bario, componente activo de almacenamiento. Debido a las condiciones reductoras bajo las condiciones normales de la conduccion del automotor se originan en sus gases de escape, el sulfato de bario y el sulfato de estroncio son descompuestas obteniendose compuestos que estan en condiciones de almacenar los oxidos de nitrogeno. De esta manera se compensa en mayor o menor grado una perdida, que se presenta por el envejecimiento, en los componentes almacenadores activos. Tambien existe la posibilidad de descomponer, en forma total o parcial, el sulfato de bario y/o el sulfato de estroncio ya durante la produccion mediante una calcinacion reductora, de manera de obtener una elevada carga inicial de composiciones de almacenamiento en el catalizador. En este caso sirven dichos sulfatos como agentes auxiliares para introducir en el catalizador almacenador, composiciones de almacenamiento con las maximas concentraciones posibles.
