Abstract

Se describe una composicion de alimento marino que comprende acido araquidonico (ARA) derivado microbianamente o acido araquidonico (AR) en forma de un triglicerido. El ARA es producido apropiadamente por un hongo, tal como del genero Mortierella, aunque la composicion de alimento misma esta libre de celulas microbianas. Se ha encontrado que estas formas de ARA dan mejor promocion de crecimiento y pigmentacion en organismos marinos (camarones y peces) que las formas fosfolipidas correspondientes del acido araquidonico de aceite de pescado. El ARA puede estar en forma de un aceite, por ejemplo, una emulsion aceite en agua o puede primero ser alimentado a larvas, rotiferos o nauplios que son incluidos por si mismos en una composicion como alimento "vivo" para organismos mas grandes.
