Abstract

Se describe un proceso para extraer extractos solubles en agua de plantas no leñosas del género Hesperaloe, en el que el extracto contiene al menos una saponina. El proceso incluye proporcionar biomasa de Hesperaloe, moler y lavar la biomasa con un solvente para producir un extracto crudo y opcionalmente purificar y/o concentrar adicionalmente el extracto crudo. Las saponinas extraídas de la biomasa de Hesperaloe pueden comprender 25(27)-des-hidrofucreastatina, 5(6),25(27)-disdeshidroyuccaloisida C, 5(6)-disdeshidroyuccaloisida C, furcreastatina y yuccaloisida C. Una modalidad de la presente solicitud proporciona un método para mejorar una respuesta inmunitaria a un antígeno en un animal no humano que comprende la administración de un extracto de Hesperaloe que contiene saponina. Otra modalidad proporciona una administración de un inmunomodulador derivado de Hesperaloe que contiene una o más saponinas para la prevención, tratamiento y control de una o más afecciones en animales no humanos. Preferentemente, un extracto de Hesperaloe que comprende una o más saponinas puede administrarse por vía oral a aves de corral para la prevención y tratamiento de la coccidiosis.
