Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a células estromales mesenquimales y a un método ventajoso para su aislamiento del cordón umbilical. En particular, las células se pueden obtener por medio de un método que comprende aislar la Jalea de Wharton estromal o una fracción de la misma de un cordón umbilical y sujetar la Jalea de Wharton estromal o una fracción de la misma a un tratamiento enzimático, para liberar en consecuencia por lo menos una célula de la Jalea de Wharton estromal o una fracción de la misma. Preferiblemente, el cultivo de células ocurre bajo condiciones que permiten la expansión de la población de células. La población de células de acuerdo con la presente invención tiene propiedades proliferativas y es de interés industrial para una variedad de propósitos.
