Abstract
Se proporcionan composiciones y métodos para la producción de una población de plantas que carecen de embriones derivados sexualmente. Las composiciones incluyen casetes de supresión que codifican polinucleótidos y promotores que resultan en partenogénesis. Se proporcionan, además, elementos genéticos para partenogénesis que se usan para impedir la reproducción sexual en una planta autoreproductora. Los métodos incluyen el uso de una mutación recesiva defectuosa para el embrión materno que después se mantiene como un sistema de mantenimiento innato estéril, lo que permite la generación de una población que es homocigota para el alelo mutante recesivo, pero transgénicamente complementada. Los métodos incluyen, además, usar un gen de una toxina expresada a través de un promotor específico de ovocélula, crear un fenotipo dominante sin embriones, no transmisible a través del gameto femenino. Las plantas homocigotas resultantes se transformarían después con un promotor de ovocélula que conduce el antídoto, un PTU de eliminación de polen y un marcador de color de la semilla para la identificación de semillas transgénicas. La generación de 50% de plantas fértiles femeninas, que tienen semillas que cuando se cultivan en la próxima generación rendirán plantas con 50% de semillas transgénicas viables, y 50% de semillas sin embrión, no viables.
