Abstract

Se describen un método y aparato para aprovechar la energía asociada con olas oceánicas y convertir esa emergía en electricidad. El aparato es una boya que aloja un eje central orientado verticalmente, un péndulo y un generador. Al inclinarse la boya del plano vertical bajo la influencia del movimiento de las olas, el péndulo es acelerado y gira alrededor del eje central. Un generador colocado centralmente está acoplado mecánicamente a, y es excitado por, el péndulo giratorio de tal forma que la energía cinética del péndulo es convertida en electricidad. La electricidad puede ser almacenada en o cerca de la boya o transferirse a una instalación remota. Además, una disposición de aletas ubicada a lo largo del fondo de la boya sirve como un mecanismo contra el par de torsión y mejora la eficiencia operacional de la producción de electricidad. El método incluye hacer uso del generador ubicado centralmente y de la disposición de aletas para aprovechar en forma eficiente la energía de las olas.
