Claims (19)

  1. 두개의 지지플레이트 사이에 전기-광학 표시매체와, 상기 지지플레이트의 마주보는 표면상에 배열된 화상 전극에 의해 행 및 열로 배열 화상소자 형성되는 시스템과, 전기-광학 표시 매체에 의존적인 전압의 범위가 화상 표시의 목적을 위해 소화상소자 양단에 나타나도록 선택 및 데이타 신호를 나타내기 위한 행 및 열 전극시스템을 구비하는 표시장치에 있어서, 상기 표시장치는 선택에 앞서 화상소자의 양단에 화상표시를 위해 사용되는 전압 범위의 한계상 또는 그 이상으로 보조전압을 인가하는 수단을 구비하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 보조전압은 상기 전기-광학 매체의 전송/전압 특성에 있어서 변이 범위의 한계 또는 그 이상인 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  3. 제1 또는 제2항에 있어서, 하나의 지지 플레이트 상의 화상 전극이 전기적으로 도통되는 방법으로, 데이타 신호용 열 전극 및 보조전압용 전극간에 직렬로 배열된 두개의 비선형 스위칭 소자의 공통점에 접속되는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  4. 제3항에 있어서, 상기 비선형 스위칭 소자는 다이오드인 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  5. 제3 또는 4항에 있어서, 화상전극의 한 행에서 나란히 놓여진 두개의 화상전극이 비선형 스위칭 소자를 통해 화상전극 사이에 위치한 보조전압용 공통전극에 접속되는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  6. 제1 또는 2항에 있어서, 제너 다이오드가 화상소자와 행 또는 열 전극 사이에 배열되는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  7. 전술한 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 전기-광학 매체는 액정물질을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  8. 제7항에 있어서, 전기-광학 물질은 강-전기 액정물질을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  9. 제6항에 있어서, 최소 제너항복 전압은 적어도, 전기-광학 물질이 하나의 광학상태에서 다른 상태로 전환시키는 전압영역의 두배인 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
  10. 두개의 지지 플레이트 사이에 전기-광학 표시매체와 상기 지지플레이트의 마주보는 표면상에 배열된 화상 전극에 의해 행 및 열로 배열 형성되는 화상소자 시스템과, 최소한 라인 주기의 일부동안에 화상소자의 행이 화상소자와 직렬 접속된 비선형 스위칭 소자에 의해 행 전극을 통해 선택되고 반면에 데이타 신호는 열 전극을 통해 나타나는 행 및 열 전극 시스템을 구비하는 표시장치를 구동하는 방법에 있어서, 데이타 신호를 나타내는데 앞서 화상소자가 화상표시에 사용되는 범위의 한계상 또는 그 이상의 보조전압까지 충전 또는 방전되는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치 구동방법.
  11. 제10항에 있어서, 상기 보조전압은 전기-광학 매체의 전송/전압 특성에 변이 영역의 한계상 또는 그 이상인 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치 구동방법.
  12. 제10 또는 제11항에 있어서, 동일한 라인 선택주기 동안에, 제1보조전압 및 표시를 위해 사용되는 전압이 화상소자의 양단에 나타나는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치 구동방법.
  13. 제10 또는 제11항에 있어서, 선택이 나타나는 라인주기에 앞서는 라인 선택주기 동안에 보조전압이 나타나고 데이타 신호는 화상소자의 행에 나타나는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치 구동방법.
  14. 두개의 지지 플레이트 사이에 전기-광학 표시 매체와, 상기 지지플레이트의 마주보는 표면상에 배열된 화상전극에 의해 행 및 열로 배열 형성되는 화상소자 시스템과, 최소한 라인주기의 일부동안에 화상소자의 행이 행 전극을 통해 선택되고 데이타 신호는 열전극을 통해 나타나는 행 및 열 전극 시스템을 구비하는 표시장치 구동방법에 있어서, 제너 다이오드가 화상소자와, 행 또는 열 전극 사이에 배치되고 데이타 신호의 표시에 앞서 화상소자가 제너 다이오드의 제너 특성에 의해 화상표시를 위한 영역의 한계 또는 그 이상 전압으로 충전이나 방전되는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치 구동방법.
  15. 제14항에 있어서, 제너특성을 통한 충전이나 방전 및 데이타 신호의 표시는 화상소자의 한 행에 대한 같은 라인 선택주기 내에서 일어나는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치 구동방법.
  16. 제14항에 있어서, 제너특성을 통한 충전 또는 방전은 화상소자의 행이 선택되는 라인주기에 앞서는 라인 선택 주기동안에 실행되는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치 구동방법.
  17. 제10항 내지 제16항중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 화상소자의 한 행 양단의 전압은 방금 기록된 화상소자의 행에 대해 반전된 극성으로 나타나는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치 구동방법.
  18. 제10항 내지 제17항중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 표시장치는 액정물질을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치 구동방법.
  19. 제18항에 있어서, 상기표시장치는 강전기 액정물질을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치 구동방법.
