Abstract

과거에 비해 컴퓨터에 더욱 의존하게 되면서, 컴퓨터 상의 애플리케이션 및 상응하는 실행 아이템(예컨대, 열린 윈도우)의 관리가 점점 더 어려워지고 부담스러워지고 있다. 지난 몇 년 동안 전반적인 성능이 개선됨과 동시에 속도와 메모리도 증가한 컴퓨터들을 이용가능하게 되면서 과거에는 사용자가 다수의 애플리케이션을 동시에 효과적으로 실행하지 못했지만 이제는 가능하게 되었다. 사용자는 다양한 애플리케이션을 실행할 수 있고, 한 번에 하나 이상의 애플리케이션을 빈번하게 실행할 수도 있다.

특별한 사용자 인터페이스가 채용될 것인지와 상관없이, 여기서 설명되는 몰입형 환경을 생성하기 위한 기법은 사용자로 하여금 동시에 다수의 애플리케이션을 관리할 수 있게 해준다. 예를 들어, 몰입형 환경의 주요 영역에 존재하는 작업 관련 메모를 몰입형으로 계속 표시하면서, 사용자가 어제 사용했던 음악 애플리케이션을 선택하고 싶어한다고 가정하자. 본 발명에 의한 기법은 음악 애플리케이션 같은 최근 사용된 애플리케이션을 표시하고 작업 관련 메모가 몰입형 환경의 비주요 영역으로 자동적으로 이동하면서 사용자로 하여금 빠르고 쉽게 음악 애플리케이션을 주요 영역에 표시할 수 있게 해주는 사용자 인터페이스를 제공할 수 있다.
또한 예시로서, 사용자가 매일마다 그의 몰입형 세션을 동일한 세 개의 애플리케이션 - 스포츠 웹사이트, 비즈니스 뉴스 웹사이트, 및 작업관련 메모 - 로 시작하길 바란다고 가정하자. 본 발명에 의한 기법은 사용자가 몰입형 환경에 자동적으로 표시되고 유지될 이들 세 개의 애플리케이션을 선택할 수 있도록 한다. 사용자는 몰입형 환경을 단순히 열거나 컴퓨팅 장치에 로그온하여, 이러한 세 개의 애플리케이션을 환경에 표시되게 할 수 있다.

이러한 사안을 다루기 위해, 애플리케이션은 그것이 디스플레이 장치 상에 표시될 수 있는 사이즈(들)를 규정할 수 있다. 허용가능한 애플리케이션의 사이즈(들)는 임의의 적합한 방식으로 규정될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 애플리케이션은 최대 및/또는 최소 사이즈 한도, 애플리케이션의 콘텐트에 표시될 수 있는 일련의(즉, 두 개 이상의) 상이한 사이즈, 단일의 고정된 사이즈 등과 같은 사이즈 요건을 규정할 수 있다.
애플리케이션은 몰입형 환경 모듈(122) 및/또는 관리자 모듈(124)로 하여금 애플리케이션의 콘텐트를 애플리케이션의 사이즈 요건에 따라 디스플레이의 비주요 영역에 표시하게 해주는 하나 이상의 API(애플리케이션 프로그래밍 인터페이스)에 노출시키도록 잘 알려진 방식으로 환경설정될 수 있다.

세로, 세로 요건, 및 이와 같은 것에 대한 언급은 오직 예시적인 설명을 위한 것임을 주목해야 한다. 더 일반적으로, 사이즈 요건은 단순히 세로가 아니라 임의의 방향으로의 사이즈를 일컫는 것일 수 있다. 즉, 사이즈 요건은 디스플레이의 비주요 영역에서 애플리케이션의 콘텐트가 차지하는 구역의 한 방향으로의 길이를 규정할 수 있다. 방향은 세로축(vertical axis), 가로축(horizontal axis), 또는 그들 사이의 임의의 축을 따를 수 있다.

Claims (10)

  1. 컴퓨팅 장치로서,
    시스템 크롬(chrome) 없이 디스플레이 장치 상에 복수의 애플리케이션이 동시에 디스플레이되도록 하되, 상기 애플리케이션 중 적어도 제 1 애플리케이션이 디스플레이의 주요 영역(primary region)에 디스플레이되도록 하는 몰입형 환경 모듈(immersive environment module)과,
    적어도 하나의 다른 애플리케이션과 함께 상기 디스플레이 장치 상에 동시에 디스플레이될 애플리케이션에 대한 사용자 선택을 가능하도록 하는 UI 관리 컴포넌트와,
    상기 제 1 애플리케이션의 콘텐트가 상기 디스플레이 장치의 상기 주요 영역 상에 디스플레이됨과 동시에 사용자가 선택한 애플리케이션의 콘텐트가 상기 디스플레이 장치의 비주요 영역(non-primary region) 상에 디스플레이되는 경우 상기 사용자가 선택한 애플리케이션의 콘텐트의 적어도 한 방향으로의 사이즈를 결정 - 상기 결정은 상기 사용자가 선택한 애플리케이션에 의해 규정된 하나 이상의 미리 정의된 사이즈 요건에 적어도 부분적으로 근거를 둠 - 하는 프로세싱 로직(processing logic)을 포함하는
    컴퓨팅 장치.

  2. 제 1 항에 있어서,

  5. 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 미리 정의된 사이즈 요건은 상기 적어도 한 방향으로의 고정된 사이즈인

  7. 디스플레이 장치 상에 복수의 애플리케이션의 콘텐트를 동시에 디스플레이하는 방법으로서,
    상기 애플리케이션 중 제 1 애플리케이션의 콘텐트가 디스플레이의 주요 영역(primary region)에 디스플레이될 것을 지시하는 사용자 입력을 수신하는 단계와,
    상기 애플리케이션 중 제 2 애플리케이션의 콘텐트가 상기 디스플레이의 상기 주요 영역에서 상기 제 1 애플리케이션의 상기 콘텐트를 대체할 것을 지시하는 사용자 입력을 수신하는 단계와,
    상기 제 1 애플리케이션의 상기 콘텐트를 상기 디스플레이의 비주요 영역(non-primary region)으로 이동시키는 단계와,
