발명의 개요

다층 수분 배리어의 물 투과는 도 2에 일반적으로 도시된 바와 같이 밀폐제 2.5 mils 두께로 알루미늄 호일로 밀폐된 매우 흡습성인 에틸렌 카보네이트 : 프로필렌 카보네이트 : 폴리비닐리딘 플루오라이드의 용매 혼합물의 부피비가 2.4 : 2.4 : 5.2 인 0.5 M 리튬 트리플루오로메탄술포네이트 같은 비양성자성 유기 전해질과 함께 70 중량% 술포란을 함유한 0.25 인치 너비 및 3 mils 두께 무수 폴리비닐리덴 플루오라이드의 스트립을 위치함으로써 측정한다. 밀폐제는 폴리부틸렌 일래스토머 변형된 말레 무수물이다. 본 조함은 밀폐 글로브 상자내 무수 조건하에서 이루어진다. 이어서 이렇게 형성된 라미네이트를 폴리비닐리딘 플루오라이드의 술포란 함유 스트립을 제거하고 Karl Fisher titrometry로 물 상수를 분석한 후 60℃ 및 100% 상대 습도에서 1주일간 보관한다. 이것이 실험 방법이고 하기 실시예에서 언급되고 사용된 실험 조건이다. 본 발명의 수분 배리어는 15 이하의 수분 증기 투과율을 가지고 본 실험 과정 및 조건에 따라 24시간 동안 바람직하게는 5 이하, 더 바람직하게는 2 ㎍이하의 물/인치2표면적을 가진다.
전지 시험기를 위한 수분 배리어로서 유용한 본 발명의 다층 박막 복합재 제조시, 층은 리본, 스트립 또는 웹, 또는 기타 적당한 기질 물질의 형태의 가요성 중합체 필름 같은 가요성 기질 상에 침착된다. 수분 배리어로서 사용하기위한 본 발명의 다층 복합재 제조시, 가요성 기질이 바람직하여 배리어의 제조 과정 및 전지에 적용시 굽힘을 견디지만, 꼭 가요성일 필요는 없다. 기질에 침착된 제 1 층은 제 1 층으로서 적용되기를 원하면, 유기 물질일 수 있지만, 일반적으로 무기 층이다. 본 발명의 방법의 양태를 제한하지 않는 양태를 도시하기 위한 방법으로서 무기 물질의 제 1 층은 기질상에 침착시키고 유기 물질 제 1 층은 무기 물질의 제 1 층에 침착시킨다. 이어서 무기 물질의 제 2 층은 유기 물질의 제 1 층에 침착시킨다. 이렇게 한 후에, 유기 물질의 제 2 층을 무기 물질의 제 2 층에 침착시킨다. 이어서 무기 물질의 제 3 층을 유기 물질 제 2 층에 침착시키고 유기 물질의 제 3 층을 무기 물질의 제 3 층에 침착시킨다. 이러한 교대 층 침착을 도 1에 도시된 바와 같이, 원하는 수의 층이 형성될 때까지 반복한다. 도 1이 총 14개의 층 또는 7개의 층 쌍을 도시하지만, 최대의 의미에서 층의 실제 수는 사용된 물질 및 적용에 따라 좌우되고, 본 발명의 다층 복합재는 수분 배리어로서가 아닌 적용을 위해 사용될 수 있고 층의 수는 4 내지 100 이상으로 변화할 수 있다.
무기 층은 산화물, 질소화물, 탄화물, 인화물 또는 인산염등 및 본질적으로 금속, 실리콘, 붕소, 비소 및 이의 혼합물로 이루어진 그룹으로부터 선택된 적어도 하나의 원소의 이러한 화합물의 혼합물 같은 고체, 무기 화합물이다. 예를 들면, 무기 화합물은 질소화물, 인화물, 산화물, 탄화물, 옥시할로겐화물, 붕산염, 규산염, 텅스텐산염 등 및 이의 혼합물이다. 도시적이지만 제한적이지 않는 양태의 실시예에서, 무기 층은 PVD 스퍼터링 과정에 의해 적용된 주석-납-인-옥시플루올로라이드를 포함하는 수분 내성 유리인 무기 화합물의 혼합물이다. 기타 수분 내성 유리 조성물은 붕소-인-규산염, 규산염, 인산염, 비소염, 바나듐염, 니오븀염, 탄탈산염, 텅스텐산염, 붕소규산염, 알루미늄규산염, 황화물, 셀레늄화물, 텔루르화염 등과 같은 칼코기나이드 유리이다. 다른 실시예에서 무정형 실리콘 질소화물 또는 적당한 금속 질소화물, SiOX, Al2O3, Nb2O5같은 단일 산화물 또는 SiXNYOZ같은 화합물, 또는 하나 이상의 금속간 화합물이다. 본 발명에 따른 전지 시험기를 위한 수분 배리어의 사용을 위해, 무기 층은 수분의 존재하에서 안정하고 어느 정도의 가요성을 가져서 다층 복합재가 무기 층의 부서짐없이 구부러지게 하고 그럼으로써 수분 배리어로서 복합재의 효율을 감소시킨다. 수분 배리어 적용에서, 무기 화합물은 수용성이고, 이것은 물 해리율이 25 ℃에서 1 × 10-4g/㎠-분, 바람직하게는 25 ℃에서 1 × 10-5g/㎠-분, 더 바람직하게는 25 ℃에서 1 × 10-6g/㎠-분인 것을 의미한다. 유기 층은 고체이고 가장 바람직하게는 중합성 물질이다. 중합성 물질은 복합재의 용도 및 사용시 노출되는 환경에 따라 무정형 또는 비결정, 일래스토머성, 가교결합성 또는 비가교결합성 등이다. 적당한 유기 물질의 예에는 도시된 바와 같은, 그러나 양태에 제한되지는 않는, 미세결정 왁스, 농축된 방향족, 폴리올레핀, 폴리비닐 클로라이드 및 이의 공중합체, 폴리크실렌, 플루오로중합체 및 공중합체, 일래스토머, 폴리이미드, 폴리아마이드, 에폭사이드, 폴리에스테르, 폴리에테르, 폴리카보네이트, 할로겐화된 중합체 등이 포함된다. 플루오로화된 탄소 중합체를 포함한 할로겐화된 중합체는 또한 본 발명의 실시에서 유용하다. 아크릴성 중합체는 본 발명의 실시에서 유용하고 특히 헥실메타아크릴레이트 및/또는 헥실아크릴레이트 등을 포함한 단량체(들)의 반응으로부터 형성된 아크릴성 중합체 같은 적어도 6개 탄소 원자의 탄화수소 쇄를 가진 아크릴성 중합체가 유용하다. 본 발명의 실시에 유용한, 중합성이 아닌 고체 유기 물질은 예를 들면, 메틸 스테아레이트, 스테아르산 등을 포함한, 수분 배리어에서 사용을 위해, 본 유기 물질은 바람직하게는 소수성, 습윤성 환경에서 안정하고, 수분 또는 수증기에 대한 투과도가 가능한한 적은 것이다. 수분 배리어 적용을 위한 유기 물질 층은 100 ℉ 및 1994 Annual Book of ASTM Standard의 부피 15.09를 나타내는 ASTM F 372-78에 의해 측정된 90% RH에서 20 gm-mil/100 in2-24시간 이하, 바람직하게는 10 gm-mil/100 in2-24시간 이하이고 더 바람직하게는 1 gm-mil/100 in2-24시간 이하인 수분 투과도를 가진다. 유기 층을 유동 코팅, 응축, 단량체 또는 예비중합체의 반응, 스퍼터링 같은 PVD, CVD, 및 일반적으로 전술한 바와 같은 여타의 방법에 의해 복합재의 원하는 성질, 유기 층의 특성 및 당해 기술 분야의 숙련인에 의해 인식될 바와 같이 사용된 침착 방법에 따라 침착시킨다.
본 발명은 하기의 실시예를 참고로 하여 수분 배리어가 광 투명하다는 것이 추가로 이해될 것이다.
실시예 1
본 실시예에서 1 mil 두께의 폴리에틸렌 나프탈렌(Kalodex)이 기질이고 1.5 millitorr의 아르곤내에서 수분 내성 유리로 스퍼터 코팅시켜 필름상 500 Å 두께 유리 층을 형성시킨다. 본 유리는 약 350℃의 융점을 가지고 약 500℃에서 30분 동안 조성물 SnO : SnF2: PbO : P2O5가 32 : 37 : 8 : 23의 비율을 가진 배취에서 용융시킴으로서 제조한다. 이렇게 한 후에, 유리 층을 1 μ두께 층의 모노클로리네이티드된 디-파라크실렌 중합체로 코팅하고, 고체, 모노클로리네이티드된 디-파라크실렌 이량체(Union Carbide의 Parlene C)를 약 160℃ 까지 가열하여 이량체를 증발시키고, 열 튜브를 통하여 증기를 통과시켜 약 600℃에서 이량체를 단량체로 나누고 이렇게 형성된 단량체를 20 Torr의 압력과 약 30℃의 온도를 가지는 진공 챔버로 통과시켜 단량체를 응축시키고 유리-코팅된 기질상 현장에서 중합하여 1 μ 두께 층 또는 유리 층상 직접 중합체의 코팅을 형성한다. 본 중합체는 직쇄, 비가교결합된, 대부분이 탄화수소 형태의 중합체이다. 이러한 교대 층 침착 방법을 2번 더 반복하여 기질상 6개의 교대 층의 유리 및 중합체( 3개의 유리 및 3개의 중합체)을 형성하고 이렇게 형성된 박막 다층 수분 배리어는 발명의 상세한 설명하에서 언급된 실험 방법에 의해 24시간 동안 측정하여 수증기 투과율이 52 ㎍ 물/in2표면적을 가진다.
실시예 2
기질상 총 10 개( 5개의 유리 및 5개의 중합체)의 유리 및 중합체의 교대 층을 사용하는 것만을 제외하고는 발명의 상세한 설명하에서 언급된 실험 방법에 의해 24시간 동안 측정하여 수증기 투과율이 24 ㎍ 물/in2표면적을 가지는 수분 배리어를 형성한다.
실시예 3
기질상 총 14 개( 7개의 유리 및 7개의 중합체)의 유리 및 중합체의 교대 층을 사용하는 것만을 제외하고는 발명의 상세한 설명하에서 언급된 실험 방법에 의해 24시간 동안 측정하여 수증기 투과율이 4.7 ㎍ 물/in2표면적을 가지는 수분 배리어를 형성한다.
실시예 4
본 실시예에서 1 mil 두께 필름의 폴리에틸렌 나프탈렌(Kalodex)이 기질이고 1.5 millitorr의 아르곤내에서 실리콘 다이옥사이드로 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터 코팅시켜 층 또는 약 500 Å 두께 SiOX의 코팅을 형성한다. 이어서 SiOX코팅된 기질이 트리비닐메틸실란 접착 프로모터 및 Cyracure 6974(트리아릴술포늄 염) UV 개시제를 함유하는 MIBK에서 비닐에테르 단량체(Vectomer, 연합-신호)용액내로 침염 코팅된다. 습윤 코팅 복합재가 UV 복사선에 수초 동안 노출시키고 건조 폴리비닐에테르 코팅 3 μ 두께로 경화시킨다. 본 교대 층 침착 과정을 6번 반복하여 도 1에 도시된 바와 같이, 기질상 14개 교대 층(7개의 SiOX 및 7개의 중합체)을 형성하여 실시예 1의 실험 방법을 사용하여 시험된 2 mil 두께 투명한 수분 배리어를 생성하고 발명의 상세한 설명하에서 언급된 실험 방법에 의해 24시간 동안 측정하여 수증기 투과율이 21 ㎍ 물/in2표면적을 가진다.
실시예 5
본 실시예에서 1 mil 두께의 폴리에틸렌 나프탈렌(Kalodex)이 기질이고 1.5 millitorr의 아르곤내에서 실시예 1의 유리로 스퍼터 코팅시켜서 필름상 500 Å 두께 유리 층을 형성시킨다. 이렇게 한 후에, 유리 층은 전술한 실시예 4에서 설명된 바와 같이 1 μ 두께의 폴리비닐에테르로 스퍼터 코팅한다(Vectomer 40105F, 연합-신호). 본 교대 층 침착 과정을 6번 반복하여 도 1에 도시된 바와 같이, 기질상 유리 및 폴리비닐에테르의 14개 교대 층(7개의 유리 및 7개의 폴리비닐에테르)을 형성하고, 수분 배리어는 발명의 상세한 설명하에서 언급된 실험 방법에 의해 24시간 동안 측정하여 수증기 투과율이 21 ㎍ 물/in2표면적을 가진다.
실시예 6
본 실시예에서 1 mil 두께의 폴리에틸렌 나프탈렌(Kalodex)이 기질이고 1.5 millitorr의 아르곤내에서 실시예 1의 유리로 스퍼터 코팅시켜어 필름상 500 Å 두께 유리 층을 형성시킨다. 이렇게 한 후에, 유리 층은 1 μ 두께의 폴리클로로트리플루오로에틸렌으로 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터 코팅한다(Aclar, 연합-신호). 본 교대 층 침착 과정을 6번 반복하여 도 1에 도시된 바와 같이, 기질상 유리 및 폴리비닐에테르의 14개 교대 층(7개의 유리 및 7개의 폴리비닐에테르)을 형성하고, 수분 배리어는 발명의 상세한 설명하에서 언급된 실험 방법에 의해 24시간 동안 측정하여 수증기 투과율이 28 ㎍ 물/in2표면적을 가진다.
실시예 7
본 실시예에서 1 mil 두께의 폴리에틸렌 나프탈렌(Kalodex)이 기질이고 1.5 millitorr의 아르곤내에서 실시예 1의 유리로 스퍼터 코팅시켜어 필름상 500 Å 두께 유리 층을 형성시킨다. 이어서, PTFE를 실리콘 나이트리드 층상에서 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터링시켜 1 μ 두께의 PTFE 층을 형성한다. 이 과정을 한 번 반복하여 박막 기질상 무정형 실리콘 나이트리드 및 PTFE(2개의 실리콘 나이트리드 및 2개의 PTFE)의 4개의 교대 층을 포함하는 다층 수분 배리어를 형성하고 발명의 상세한 설명하에서 언급된 실험 방법에 의해 24시간 동안 측정하여 수증기 투과율이 28 ㎍ 물/in2표면적을 가진다.
실시예 8
본 실시예에서 1 mil 두께의 폴리에틸렌 나프탈렌(Kalodex)이 기질이고 1.5 millitorr의 아르곤내에서 수분 내성 유리로 스퍼터 코팅되어 필름상 500 Å 두께 유리 층을 형성시킨다. 이렇게 한 후에, 실리콘 나이트리드 층을 1 μ두께 층의 모노클로리네이티드된 디-파라크실렌 중합체로 코팅하고, 고체, 모노클로리네이티드된 디-파라크실렌 이량체(Union Carbide의 Parlene C)를 약 160℃ 까지 가열하여 이량체를 증발시키고, 열 튜브를 통하여 증기를 통과시켜 약 600℃에서 이량체를 단량체로 나누고 이렇게 형성된 단량체를 20 Torr의 압력과 약 30℃의 온도를 가지는 진공 챔버로 통과시켜 단량체를 응축시키고 유리-코팅된 기질상 현장에서 중합하여 1 μ 두께 층 또는 유리 층상 직접 중합체의 코팅을 형성한다. 본 중합체는 직쇄, 비가교결합된, 대부분이 탄화수소 형태의 중합체이다. 이러한 교대 층 침착 방법은 3번 더 반복하여 기질상 8개의 교대 층의 유리 및 중합체( 4개의 실리콘 나이트리드 및 4개의 중합체)을 형성하고 이렇게 형성된 박막 다층 수분 배리어는 발명의 상세한 설명하에서 언급된 실험 방법에 의해 24시간 동안 측정하여 수증기 투과율이 52 ㎍ 물/in2표면적을 가진다.
비교 실시예 A
본 실시예에서 1 mil 두께 필름의 폴리에틸렌 나프탈렌(Kalodex)이 기질이고 1.5 millitorr의 아르곤내에서 실리콘 다이옥사이드로 층 또는 약 500 Å 두께 SiOX의 코팅을 형성하기 위해 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터 코팅한다. 이어서 PTFE의 층의 1 μ 두께는 SiOX상에서 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터시킨다. 본 교대 층 침착 과정을 4번 더 반복하여 기질상 10개 교대 층(5개의 SiOX및 5개의 PTFE)을 형성하여 복합재 수분 배리어를 생성하고 수분 배리어는 발명의 상세한 설명하에서 언급된 실험 방법에 의해 24시간 동안 측정하여 수증기 투과율이 570 ㎍ 물/in2표면적을 가진다.
비교 실시예 B
본 실시예에서 1 mil 두께 필름의 폴리에틸렌 나프탈렌(Kalodex)이 기질이고 1.5 millitorr의 아르곤내에서 실리콘 다이옥사이드로 층 또는 약 500 Å 두께 SiOX의 코팅을 형성하기 위해 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터 코팅한다. 이어서 가교결합된 폴리에틸렌 1 μ 두께는 메탄의 플라즈마-증강 CVD에 의해 SiOX상에서 스퍼터시킨다. 본 교대 층 침착 과정을 4번 더 반복하여 기질상 10개 교대 층(5개의 SiOX및 5개의 폴리에틸렌)을 형성하여 박막 복합재 수분 배리어를 생성하고 발명의 상세한 설명하에서 언급된 실험 방법에 의해 24시간 동안 측정하여 수증기 투과율이 340 ㎍ 물/in2표면적을 가진다.
본 발명의 실시에서 다양한 기타 양태 및 변형이 명백해지고, 앞서 기재된 본 발명의 범위 및 취지를 벗어남 없이 당해 기술의 숙련인에 의해 쉽게 제조될 수 있음이 이해될 것이다. 따라서, 본원에 첨부된 청구의 범위가 전술한 설명을 제한하지 않고, 발명이 속하는 당해 기술의 숙련인에 의해 동일하게 처리되는 모든 특성 및 양태를 포함한 본 발명에 속하는 특허성 신규성의 모든 특성을 포함하는 것으로 해석된다.
Claims (4)
- 수분 민감성 전지 상태 시험기와 중합체성 기질상에 적어도 하나의 무기 화합물, 실리콘 및 이들의 혼합물로 이루어진 그룹중에서 선택된 비수용성 무기 물질층 및 비수용성 유기 물질층의 교대층으로 구성되고 무기 화합물 층 및 유기 화합물 층의 두께는 각각 약 100 내지 10,000 Å 및 약 100 Å 내지 5 μ인 복합재를 포함하는 광 투명 수분 배리어를 구비하는 전기화학전지.
- 적어도 하나의 무기 화합물, 실리콘 및 이들의 혼합물로 이루어진 그룹중에서 선택된 비수용성 무기 물질 및 비수용성 유기 물질의 교대층을 포함하고 무기 화합물 층 및 유기 화합물 층의 두께는 각각 약 100 내지 10,000 Å 및 약 100 Å 내지 5 μ인 광 투명 다층 복합재.
- 적어도 하나의 무기 화합물, 실리콘 및 이들의 혼합물로 이루어진 그룹중에서 선택된 비수용성 무기 물질 및 비수용성 유기 물질의 교대층을 포함하고 무기 화합물 층 및 유기 화합물 층의 두께는 각각 약 100 내지 10,000 Å 및 약 100 Å 내지 5 μ인 비-라미네이팅 광투명 다층 박막 복합재의 제조 방법에 있어서, 무기 물질의 제 1 층을 기질에 침착시키고 이어서 고체 유기 물질의 제 1 층을 제 1 무기 물질층에 침착시킨 다음, 고체 무기 물질의 제 2 층을 유기 물질의 제 1 층에 침착시키고 이어서 유기 물질의 제 2 층을 무기 물질의 제 2 층에 침착시키는 단계를 포함하는 방법.
- 제 3 항에 있어서, 교대층 침착을 원하는 수의 층이 성취될 때까지 반복하는 방법.
