EPDM, HNBR 및 부틸 고무는 산업 제품 및 소비자 제품에 광범위하게 사용되는 공지된 고무 조성물이다[문헌 McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, 761-763 쪽 (McGraw-Hill, 1982) 참조]. EPDM은 에틸렌-프로필렌-디엔-단량체의 공중합체이다. HNBR은 아크릴로니트릴 및 부타디엔을 공중합시켜서 제조된 부분 수소화된 공중합체이다. 부틸 고무는 이소부틸렌 및 이소프렌의 공중합체이다.

화학식 -Ar-Sn-Ar'- 또는 -Ar-Sn-Ar"의 유기 군을 갖는 이러한 카본 블랙 제품은 EPDM, HNBR 및 부틸 고무 조성물에 있어서 특히 유용하다. 이들 유기 군에 있어서, Ar 및 Ar'는 독립적으로 아릴렌기이고, Ar"는 아릴이며, n은 1 내지 8이다. 바람직한 아릴렌기로는 페닐렌기, 특히 p-페닐렌기가 포함된다. 바람직한 아릴기로는 페닐 및 나프틸이 포함된다. 현재 n으로 정의된 황의 수는 바람직하게는 2 내지 4의 범위내이다. 특히 바람직한 유기 군은 비스-파라-(C6H4)-S2-(C6H4)-이다.

일반적으로, 고무 100 중량부에 대해 탄소 블랙 제품을 약 10 내지 약 300 중량부 범위의 양으로 사용하여 상당한 보강도를 부여할 수 있다. 그러나, 고무100 중량부 당 카본 블랙 제품을 약 50 내지 약 200 중량부 범위의 양을 사용하는 것이 바람직하며, 고무 100 중량부 당 카본 블랙 제품 약 70 내지 약 150 중량부를 사용하는 것이 특히 바람직하다.
상술한 카본 블랙 제품이 존재함으로써 대응하는 미처리 카본 블랙에 비해 본 발명의 고무 조성물의 물리적 특성이 개선된다. 카본 블랙 제품을 고무 조성물에 혼합시킴으로써 고무 조성물의 모듈러스 및 결합 고무 특성이 증가된다.
하기 실시예에 의해 본 발명이 설명되겠지만, 이에 의해 본 발명이 제한되는 것은 아니다.
ASTM 시험 방법을 사용하여 하기 실시예에 나타낸 본 발명의 고무 조성물을 평가하였다. 요오드가는 ASTM D-1510을 이용하여 측정하였다. DBPA는 ASTM D-2414를 이용하여 측정하였다. 인장력, 연신률 및 모듈러스를 ASTM D-412를 이용하여 측정하였다. 쇼어 (shore) A 경도는 ASTM D-2240-86을 이용하여 측정하였다. 점도는 L/D = 16/1인 모세관이 부착된 MPT 점도계를 이용하여 100 s-1및 100 ℃에서 측정하였다.
Tan δ는 10 Hz의 일정 주파수, 실온, 및 변형의 전단 모드에서 레오메트릭스 다이나믹 (Rheometrics Dynamic) 분광계 모델 RDS-2로 측정하였다. 변형 스위프 (sweep)를 0.08% 내지 10% DSA로 작동하였다. 10개중 5점에서 측정하였으며 최대 Tan δ를 기록하였다.
결합 고무는 다음과 같이 측정하였다: 고무 및 기지의 양의 카본 블랙을 함유하는 비경화된 고무 조성물 시료 0.5 g을 와이어 케이지 (wire cage)내에 넣고 용매에 잠기게 하였다. 하루동안 정치시킨 후에 상기 시료를 새로운 용매에 넣고, 실온에서 3일 동안 더 정치시켰다. 그런 다음, 시료를 꺼내어 오븐에서 건조시킨 후 칭량하였다. 카본 블랙의 중량을 용매 처리 전 및 후의 시료의 중량으로부터 빼서 각 시료중 고무의 양을 구하였다. 조성물내의 카본 블랙 및 다른 불용성 성분의 중량에 대해 조정한, 용매 처리 후의 시료의 중량은 잔존하는 불용성 고무의 양을 나타낸다. 결합 고무는 용매 중에 정치시킨 후의 시료내의 불용성 고무 대 원 시료내의 고무의 양의 백분율로서 나타내었다.
실시예 1: 카본 블랙 제품의 제조
본 실시예는 본 발명에 사용하기 위한 카본 블랙 제품의 제조 방법을 기술한다. 진한 HCl (2.62 g)을 물 30 g으로 희석하고 물 100 g중 p-아미노페닐 디설파이드 1.5 g의 교반중인 혼합물에 첨가하였다. 생성 용액을 얼음조내에서 냉각시키고 물 40 g 중 NaNO20.95 g의 냉각 용매를 교반하면서 첨가하였다. 4-디아조페닐 디설파이드를 형성하였다. 상기 용액을 약 14 ℃에서 물 1200 ㎖ 중 펠렛화시킨 카본 블랙 (19 mg/g의 요오드가 및 95 ㎖/100g의 DBPA) 150 g의 현탁액에 교반하면서 첨가하였다. 기포가 방출되었다. 2시간 15분 동안 교반시킨 후, 생성물을 여과시키고, 에탄올 800 ㎖로 세척하며, 물 2 ℓ로 세척한 후 125 ℃에서 건조시켰다. 이러한 공정을 통해 카본 블랙에 디티오디(4,1-페닐렌)기가 부착된 카본 블랙 제품을제조하였다.
실시예 2: 기준 카본 블랙
에탄올 800 ㎖를 사용하여 실시예 1의 미반응 카본 블랙 158 g을 세척하고, 물 약 2 ℓ로 세척한 후, 125℃의 오븐에서 건조시켜 기준 카본 블랙을 제조하였다.
실시예 3: 카본 블랙 제품의 제조
본 실시예는 본 발명에 사용하기 위한 카본 블랙 제품의 제조 방법을 기술한다. 진한 HCl (5.70 g)을 물 30 g으로 희석하고 물 100 g 중 p-아미노페닐 디설파이드 3.50 g의 교반중인 혼합물에 첨가하였다. 생성 용액을 얼음조에서 냉각시키고 물 50 g 중 NaNO22.11 g 냉각 용액을 교반하면서 첨가하였다. 4-디아조페닐 디설파이드를 형성하였다. 상기 용액을 약 14 ℃에서 물 1500 ㎖ 중 펠렛화 시킨 카본 블랙 (36 mg/g의 요오드가 및 122 ㎖/100g의 DBPA) 250 g의 현탁액에 교반하면서 첨가하였다. 기포가 방출되었다. 2시간 동안 교반시킨 후, 생성물을 여과시키고, 에탄올 1.1 ℓ로 세척하며, 물 3 ℓ로 세척한 후 125 ℃에서 건조시켰다. 미반응 카본 블랙이 0.99%의 황을 함유하는데 반하여, 테트라하이드로푸란 (THF)으로 하룻밤 동안 추출하고 건조한 카본 블랙 제품의 시료는 1.32%의 황을 함유하였다. 따라서, 상기 제품은 디티오디(4,1-페닐렌)기를 0.05 mmol/g 함유하였다.
실시예 4: 기준 카본 블랙
에탄올 1.1 ℓ를 사용하여 실시예 3의 미반응 카본 블랙 250 g을 세척하고,물 약 3 ℓ로 세척한 후, 125 ℃의 오븐에서 건조시켜 기준 카본 블랙을 제조하였다.
실시예 5: 카본 블랙 제품의 EPDM에의 사용
본 실시예는 실시예 1의 카본 블랙 제품, 실시예 2의 세척된 기준 카본 블랙 및 실시예 1로부터의 세척되지 않은 기준 카본 블랙을 EPDM에 사용하는 것을 설명한다. 비스타론 (VISTALON) 5600 EPDM (81.4 g) (비스타론은 미국 텍사스주 휴스톤시에 소재하는 Exxon Chemical Americas의 등록 상표임)을 1분 동안 45 ℃의 초기 온도에서 77 rpm으로 브라벤더 (Brabender) 혼합기로 밀링하였다. 파라핀계 오일 ASTM D-2226, 타입 104B (122.1 g)을 첨가하여 1분 동안 혼합하였다. 상기 카본 블랙 (122.1 g)을 첨가한 후 2.5분 동안 혼합하였다. 산화아연 4.07 g 및 스테아르산 0.81 g을 첨가한 다음 2분 동안 혼합하였다. 테트라메틸 티우람 디설파이드 2.2 g, 아연 디부틸디티오카르바메이트 2.2 g, 아연 디메틸디티오카르바메이트 2.2 g, 황 0.41 g 및 4,4' 디티오디모르폴린 1.38 g을 첨가하고 2분 동안 더 혼합하였다. 결합 고무는 실온에서 용매로서 톨루엔을 사용하여 측정하였다. 하기 표 1은 실시예 1의 카본 블랙 제품이 EPDM에 유용하며 모듈러스 및 결합 고무를 증가시키는 것을 나타내고 있다.

실시예 6: 카본 블랙 제품의 EPDM에의 사용

실시예 7: 카본 블랙 제품의 부틸 고무에의 사용
본 실시예는 실시예 3의 카본 블랙 제품, 실시예 4의 세척된 기준 카본 블랙 및 실시예 3으로부터 세척되지 않은 기준 카본 블랙을 부틸 고무에 사용하는 것을 설명한다. 부틸 고무 301 (181.1 g)을 30 ℃의 초기 온도에서 30초 동안 40 rpm으로 브라벤더 혼합기로 밀링하였다. 파라핀계 오일 ASTM D-2226, 타입 104B (21.7 g) 및 카본 블랙 (135.9 g)을 첨가하여 2분 동안 혼합하였다. 실시예 8: 카본 블랙 제품의 제조
본 실시예는 본 발명의 고무 조성물에 유용한 카본 블랙 제품의 제조 방법을 설명한다. 요오드가 120 mg/g 및 DBPA 125 ㎖/100g인 카본 블랙을 사용하였다. 진한 HCl 2.65 g 및 물 30 g의 냉각 용액을 물 50 g 중 4-아미노페닐 페닐 디설파이드 2.85 g의 혼합물에 첨가하여 얼음조에서 교반하였다. 물 30 g 중 NaNO21.04 g의 냉각 용액을 10분에 걸쳐서 첨가하였다. 4-디아조페닐 페닐 디설파이드 클로라이드를 형성하였다. 디아조늄 현탁액을 15 ℃에서 교반중인 물 약 800 g 중 카본 블랙 122 g의 현탁액에 첨가하였다. 기포가 방출되었다. 약 2시간 동안 교반시킨 후, 카본 블랙 제품을 여과시키고, 이소프로판올로 세척하며, 물로 세척한 후 약 125℃의 오븐에서 건조시켰다. 미처리 카본 블랙이 1.08%의 황 함량을 가지는데 반하여, THF로 하룻밤 동안 속슬레 추출기로 추출하고 건조시킨 카본 블랙 제품의 시료는1.32%의 황을 함유하였다. 따라서, 상기 카본 블랙 제품은 부착된 페닐디티오페닐렌기 0.038 mmol/g을 함유하였다. 이러한 카본 블랙 제품은 상기 실시예에 따른 본 발명의 고무 조성물로 혼입시킬 수 있다.
