図3は、本液晶表示装置10の概略構成を示す断面図である。図3に示すように、本液晶表示装置10は、画像の表示を行う表示用液晶パネル1、該液晶表示装置10の視野角特性を切り替えるための視野角制御用液晶パネル2、表示用液晶パネル1と視野角制御用液晶パネル2との間に設けられ、視認制限方向を設定するための設定用位相差板(1/2λ板)7、およびバックライト3を備える。
Claims (15)
- 表示用液晶パネルと視野角制御用液晶パネルとを備え、視野角特性を切り替えることが可能な液晶表示装置であって、
上記表示用液晶パネルと視野角制御用液晶パネルとの間に、視認制限方向を設定するための位相差部材が設けられていることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 上記表示用液晶パネルは第1の偏向部材、表示用液晶セル、および第2の偏向部材がこの順に重ねられて構成されるとともに、上記視野角制御用液晶パネルは第3の偏向部材、視野角制御用液晶セル、および第4の偏向部材がこの順に重ねられて構成されており、
上記位相差部材は上記第2および第3の偏向部材の間に配されていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。 - 上記位相差部材は、1/2波長板であることを特徴とする請求項2記載の液晶表示装置。
- 上記位相差部材は、並行に配された2枚の1/4波長板であることを特徴とする請求項2記載の液晶表示装置。
- 上記第2および第3の偏向部材は、第2の偏向部材の透過軸と上記1/2波長板の軸とがなす角が、該1/2波長板の軸と第3の偏向部材の透過軸とがなす角に等しくなるように配されていることを特徴とする請求項3記載の液晶表示装置。
- 第1の偏向部材と表示用液晶セルとの間および第2の偏向部材と表示用液晶セルとの間の少なくとも一方に、位相差板がさらに設けられていることを特徴とする請求項2記載の液晶表示装置。
- 第3の偏向部材と視野角制御用液晶セルとの間および第4の偏向部材と視野角制御用液晶セルとの間の少なくとも一方に、位相差板がさらに設けられていることを特徴とする請求項2記載の液晶表示装置。
- バックライトを備え、該バックライトと上記視野角制御用液晶パネルとの間に表示用液晶パネルが設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- バックライトを備え、該バックライトと上記表示用液晶パネルとの間に視野角制御用液晶パネルが設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- バックライトを備え、該バックライトから出射する光が指向性を有していることを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 表示用液晶パネルと組み合わせることで、視野角特性を切り替えることが可能な液晶表示装置を構成する視野角制御モジュールであって、
表示用液晶パネル側から順に、視認制限方向を設定するための位相差部材、および視野角制御用液晶パネルが配されていることを特徴とする視野角制御モジュール。 - 視野角制御用液晶パネルは、第1の偏向部材、視野角制御用液晶セル、および第2の偏向部材がこの順に重ねられて構成されることを特徴とする請求項11記載の視野角制御モジュール。
- 上記位相差部材は、1/2波長板であることを特徴とする請求項12記載の視野角制御モジュール。
- 視野角制御モジュールに入射する、あるいは視野角制御モジュールから出射する光の偏向軸と上記1/2波長板の軸とがなす角が、該1/2波長板の軸と第1の偏向部材の透過軸とがなす角に等しいことを特徴とする請求項13記載の視野角制御モジュール。
- 上記位相差部材は、並行に配された2枚の1/4波長板であることを特徴とする請求項12記載の視野角制御モジュール。
