Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily impart a clear rugged pattern to the surface of a corrosion- resistant member by masking the member surface, then forming a metallic amorphous coating film, removing the mask, and etching the member. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the corrosion-resistant member 1 (stainless steel, metallic Ti, etc.) is masked with a thin metallic sheet or foil 2 (spring steel, copper alloy, etc.). The metallic amorphous coating film 3 (an alloy consisting of Ta, Fe, Ni, Cr, etc.) is formed in about 500Angstrom -40mu thickness of the surface of the member 1. The mask 2 is removed, and the member 1 having the amorphous coating film 3 only on the part not covered with the mask 2 is obtained. The member 1 is further etched with an etchant, and a recess 4 is formed on only the exposed surface of the member 1. By this method, an embossed pattern having ruggedness can be formed, and further the protrusion can be uniformly and beautifully colored.
