Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the setting of the optimum quantity of light accurately in a short time, by a method wherein a video signal detected with a 1-D sensor by two thresholds is binary coded to measure the sum of high level range of the respective binary-coded signals within one scanning and both the results are made to coincide roughly with each other. CONSTITUTION:The quantity of light of a light source 16 is increased gradually with a quantity of light controlling circuit 3 and reflected light from the surface of a printed wiring plate 17 is received with a 1-D sensor. Then, a video signal from the sensor 1 is binary coded with binary coding measurement circuits 2a and 2b for different thresholds and measured values as sum of high level ranges are inputted into a rough incidence detection circuit 4. The circuit 4 increases the quantity of light of a light source 16 with a circuit 5 until the measured values coincide with each other. When they coincide, the increasing of the quantity of light is stopped. This enables the setting of the optimum quantity of light accurately in a short time to reduce an erroneous recognition rate.
