Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔発明の利用分野〕 本発明は液晶表示装置に係り、特に液晶表示素子の端子
部電極構造に関する。
〔発明の背景〕
従来の液晶表示装置は、一般に第１図および第２図に示
すような構造よりなる。即ち、液晶表示素子ｌは、対向
面に電極が形成された２枚の上下・電極基板２．３の周
囲をシール材４でシールし、内部に液晶５を封入してな
る。前記上電極基板２の対向面には、透明導電膜（ＩＴ
Ｏ電極）を形成し、エツチングを行なうことにより必要
な電極パターン６および端子部電極７が形成され、前記
下電極基板３の対向面曇こも、同様ｌこ透明導電膜を形
成し、エツチングを行なうことにより必要な電極パター
ン８が形成されている。そし、て、液晶表示素子１の上
電極基板２の端子部電極７とプリント基板９間に絶縁物
、例えば絶縁性ゴムの薄層と導電性物質の薄層を積層し
てなる電気的接続コネクタ（以下ゼブラコネクタと称す
）１０を介在させ、正面パネル１１をプリント基板９に
固定することによって液晶表示素子１をプリント基板９
に保持させてなる。プリント基板９への正面）くネル１
１の固定は、プリント基板９に挿入穴（図示せず）を設
け、この挿入穴に正面パネル１１に設けた突出片１１ａ
を挿入し、突出片１１ａを折曲げることにより行なう。
しかしながら、かかる構造は、端子部電極７の内、ゼブ
ラコネクタＩＯと接触する接触部以外が外気にさらされ
ているので、高温高湿動作中に水滴が端子部電極７に付
着すると、電融により端子部電極７が断線するという問
題があった。この現Ｈｉ、特にドツトマトリックス型液
晶表示素子のように帽子部電極７のピッチが小さいもの
や、自動車用液晶表示素子のように使用環境の厳しいも
のについＣ問題となっている。
〔発明の目的〕
本発明の目的は、高温高湿動作時の信頼性を向上させる
ことができる液晶表示装置を提供することｔこある。
〔発明の概要〕
本発明は、液晶表示素子の端子部電極をゼブラコネクタ
を介してプリント基板ｌこ接続してなる液晶表示装置を
こおいて、前記ゼブラコネクタと接触する部分以外の液
晶表示素子の端子部電極を絶縁膜で覆ったことを特徴と
する。
〔発明の実施例〕
以下、本発明の一実施例を第３図により説明する。なお
、第１図および第２図と同じ部材には同一符号を付しそ
の説明を省略する。第３図に示すように、ゼブラコネク
タ１０と接触しない端子部電極７の部分を絶縁膜１２で
糧ってなる。この場合、絶縁膜１２は、ゼブラコネクタ
１０の周囲部と一部重なる領域が生じるように形成した
方がより効果的である。また絶縁膜１２としては、８ｉ
０．．５ｉｎ２とＴｉｅ、の混合膜などの無機質、ポリ
イミド、ホトレジストなどの有機高分子膜が好適である
。
このように、ゼブラコネクタ１０と接触する部分以外の
端子部電極７を絶縁膜１２で覆ってなるので、高温高湿
動作中に水滴が端子部に付着しても絶縁膜１２で電融が
防止され、信頼性が向上する。
〔発明の効果〕
以上の説明から明らかな’Ｉ口＜、本発明Ｃζよれば、
ゼブラコネクタと接触する部分以外の液晶表示素子の端
子部電極を絶縁膜で覆ってなるので、高温高湿動作時の
信頼性が向上する。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 液晶表示素子の端子部電極をゼブラコネクタを介してプ
    リント基板に接続してなる液晶表示装置において、前記
    ゼブラコネクタと接触する部分以外の液晶表示素子の端
    子部電極を絶縁膜で覆ったことを特徴とする液晶表示装
    置。
