Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the abrasion resistace of inside surfaces and to extend the service life of a continuous casting mold for billets made of copper by providing an Ni plating layer contg. P and b and a Cr plating layer successively on the inside surface of said mold. CONSTITUTION:A mold for continuous casting of billets is produced of copper or copper alloy, and a P-, B-contg. Ni plating layer and a Cr plating layer are formed on the inside surface thereof. The content of P in the Ni plating layer is 5-12%, and the content of B is 0.5-5%. The thickness of the plating layer is set at 10-50mum, and the thickness of the Cr plating layer at 5-50mum. The thickness of the Ni plating layer is made at least the same as the thickness of the Cr plating layer or larger than this. This increases the abrasion resistance of the inside surface of the mold, prevents the reduction in service life owing to the abrasion of the mold by the friction with billets and lowers the costs of molds for billets.
