Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a sliding member having superior wear resistance by forming a composite plated layer contg. a specified amt. of hard boron carbide particles of a specified particle size dispersed in an Ni alloy matrix contg. specified percentages of Co and P on the sliding surface of a metal sliding member. CONSTITUTION:A composite plated layer contg. 5-40vol.% hard boron carbide (B4C) particles of 0.5-5mum particle size dispersed in an alloy matrix consisting of 10-50wt.% Co, 1-15wt.% P and the balance Ni is formed on the sliding surface of a metal sliding member. Solid lubricant particles of about 0.5-10mum particle size such as molybdenum disulfide may further be dispersed in the alloy matrix by 5-20vol.% as required. Thus, a sliding member having a sliding surface coated with a layer having superior wear, seizing and corrosion resistances is obtd. The obtd. member is suitable for use as a piston ring or the like.
