Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the life of a mold and the quality of castings by applying chrome plating underlaid with iron nickel alloy plating contg. a prescribed amount of iron on at least the lower half part of the inside wall surface of a mold made of copper or copper alloy to prescribed thickness. CONSTITUTION:An iron nickel plating layer 4A of 1-20wt% content of iron is formed on at least lower half part of the inside wall surface of a mold body 1 made of copper or copper alloy. Next, the surface of this iron nickel plating layer is coated with a chrome plating layer 4B of 0.1-1,000mu thicknesses. With the above-mentioned constitution, the iron nickel alloy plating layer 4A exists in a cushiong manner between the inside wall surface of the mold body 1 and the layer 4B, and therefore the adhesive strength of the layer 4B is improved, and the life of the mold and the quality of castings are improved.
