Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a continuous casting mold for iron and steel which consists of further applying the spray-coated film of inorg. materials for spray coating contg. metal carbides on required parts onto the inside surface of a mold base body having been applied with an alloy plating layer of Ni and/or Co, and P and/or B and which has the protection film of high adhesiveness, heat resistance and abrasion resistance. CONSTITUTION:An alloy plating layer of usually 20-500mum, particularly 50- 100mum consisting in containing about 6-15wt% P and/or 1-8wt% B in Ni and/or Co is applied on the inside surface of the above-described mold base body. Next, a spray-coating film of inorg. materials for spray coating contg. metal carbides (e.g.; B4C, Cr3C2) is applied on said alloy plating layer of at least the corner parts and the lower end part of the inside surface of the mold to usually about 20-500mum, and particularly 50-200mum thicknesses. As a result, the local abrasion caused in the corner parts and lower end part of the inside surface of conventional molds is effectively prevented and the extention of the life by more than 6 times that of conventional Cr-plated molds is possible.
