Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent star cracks of the product and considerably improve mold life by forming the first layer composed of silver or silver alloy and the second layer containing one or more kinds of Ni and Co on the molten steel injection surface of the mold for continuous casting composed of copper or copper alloy. CONSTITUTION:Silver or silver alloy is covered on the molten steel injection surface of the continuous casting mold composed of steel or copper alloy to thicknesses about 0.1-100mu by, e.g., an electroplating method. Next, Ni or Co or their alloy is covered on this layer to thicknesses about 100-10000mu similarly by an electroplating method. When at the time of plating the second layer inorgnanic fine powder such as of ceramics, carbides, borides is suspended and floated in a plating bath and is allowed to mix and eutectoid in the second layer, the second layer of high abrasion resistance may be obtained.
