Abstract

PURPOSE: To enrich alloying elements at the surface of cast steel piece and to improve characteristics of products, by turning the outlet of immersion nozzle of mold downward and by immersing adding material of alloying elements at shallow depth in the molten steel.
CONSTITUTION: At the continuous casting, the angle between molten steel outlet 18 of immersion nozzle 16 to the mold and the horizontal plane is adjusted to turn 5W35° downward, and, at the same time, adding material 10 containing alloying elements to be added dispersely is immersed into the molten steel at a depth of 30W100mm so that the adding material will not touch sheel 8. The reason why such limits are decided in angle and depth is that, when the angle of outlet 18 is smaller than that of the specified one, the density of alloying elements will become less except at the very surface. On the other hand, when the angle becomes larger, the density of alloying elements becomes higher or lower locally. Moreover, when the immersing depth is deepened, the alloying elements will be dissolved before reaching a desired depth, and when the depth is shallower, the amount to be added becomes less and dissolving speed is not uniform.
