Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent erosion by melting of an immersion nozzle and stabilize casting by adding the specific amount of Al into the Ti-contained molten steel in a molten steel storage vessel then performing continuous casting.
CONSTITUTION: Al in mass or wire-form is added at 0.02 to 0.20% (more than 0.5 time the Ti-content) in the molten steel, which contains Ti at 0.005 to 0.150%, in a molten steel storage vessel, after which it is continuously cast. Since this molten steel contains a large amount of Al corresponding to Ti content, no erosion by melting will occur in the immersion nozzle and operation of continuous casting over a long time is made feasible, thus the production of surface defects of products is reduced.
