Abstract

PURPOSE: To shorten the time for preparation of continuous casting and improve productivity by sealing the part between the space part of a mold and a dummy bar head by means of low temp. molten steel.
CONSTITUTION: Low temp. molten steel of 1,300W1,400°C is beforehand stored in a vessel 4, and the low temp. molten steel is teemed through a spout 7 into a mold 1 closed in the bottom part with a dummy bar head 3 inserted therein, by tilting the vessel 4. The clearance between the mold space and the head 3 is sealed by this low temp. molten steel. In this case, the sealing extends down to the fine parts and since it is of low temps., it solidifies in a short time, without leaking through the clearances. If the clearance between the mold space and the head 3 are large, the combination use of a small amt. of solid sealing material is equally well.
