Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the preservation time of a nonaqueous battery and enhance the discharge characteristic of the battery by using a positive active material which is prepared by dehydrating hydrate manganese dioxide through dielectric heating, which is carried out by the irradiation of a microwave of a given frequency. CONSTITUTION:Electrolytic manganese dioxide principally containing the gamma-phase compound, natural manganese dioxide, or hydrate manganese dioxide which is a chemically synthesized one is dehydrated by subjecting it to dielectric heating at below 350 deg.C, which is carried out by the irradiation of a microwave having a frequence of 915MHz, thereby a positive electrode 5 for a manganese dioxide-lithium battery being obtained. Owing to the frequency adjustment to 915MHz, crystallization water contained in the former manganese dioxide gives rise to direct rotation and heat to make the bond energy of the crystallization water to be cut, and the dehydration of the former manganese dioxide can be most appropriately achieved. Consequently, the discharge characteristic of the battery can be enhanced, and the battery can be efficiently preserved for a long period of time.
