Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce MnO2 in a short period of time without deleteriously affecting its discharge performance, by dehydrating gamma-MnO2 free of any alkali metal ions in accordance with dielectric heating. CONSTITUTION:To obtain a positive electrode active material 2 principally made of MnO2 for nonaqueous electrolyte batteries, MnO2 is subjected to a dehydration treatment. According to this invention, gamma-MnO2 free of any alkali metal ions is employed. It is subjected to dielectric heating so as to drive off its bound water. The dielectric heating is preferably carried out by irradiating microwaves intermittently.
