Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the mechanical strength of the negative electrode and the utilization rate of active material, by applying a paste consisting of cadmium hydroxide and an organic high molecular binding agent to a base plate, then drying it at a predetermined temperature. CONSTITUTION:Cadmium hydroxide as an active material, and nickel powder as an electrically conductive agent, are mixed with an organic high molecular binding agent to form a paste, and this paste is applied to and filled into both sides of a porous nickel base plate. After the application and filling, primary drying process is carried out at 100 deg.C, and then, drying process is repeated at a temperature within a range of 170-190 deg.C. Thereafter, formation, washing in water, and pressing process etc. are carried out similarly as in the prior art to obtain the plate electrode.
